In addition, most of the goat country here in Alaska is along the coast, all in the coastal mountain ranges. Weather is typically nastier and the alder and other brush getting to the cliffs is worse. That doesn't mean that the weather is real nice for sheep hunting, it can be, but it can also be fairly nasty also.

The big difference is in the terrain. Mountain goats like the steep, cliffy, craggy stuff. Dall sheep like more open slopes, almost always near steep, rocky, escape terrain (it isn't quite as nasty as goat country).

Sheep hunting is generally physically easier, but sheep are less forgiving of mistakes. Once they know you are there, they take off, sometimes for several miles. Goats tend to get back into their cliffs and assume that you can't get to them - often they are right!

Sheep, to me, seem to die easier, so .270s and the like work quite well. The rub is that sheep country is often grizzly country, so the lighter caliber might be a bit limited if you find a bear with an attitude. Goats often need a bit more killing, and a bigger hole tends to do the job. Goat country often calls for some pretty fancy climbing where having both hands to help do the job is a necessity, so hauling a heavier weight rifle can be a pita.
