Given the following individual combinations below for ELK and Moose, what would be your limit on range and type of shot you would take for each type load shown: .7mm160gnNF/FS @2750. .308 200gn NF/tsx @2750. .338 230FS,240NF @2750. .366 286WL/NF @2550.

Are you using a laser rangefinder or not? With a laser, elevation turrets, and long range practice, you can stretch out your capabilities. If you're not using a lazer: I'd say 200 yds for the 7, because I consider 160 gr a light bullet for moose, 300 yds for the 300 or 338, and 250 yds for the 9.3mm. Using a laser and having the skills, I'd still limit the 7 on moose but would use it out to 300 and change for the elk, with the 30 and 338, they are 400 yd guns, and if I had the right presentation, I'd stretch that on elk. the 9.3mm would be a 300 yd gun, simply too little velocity IMHO past that no matter how well you dial in the drop. __________________________________________________ The AR series of rounds, ridding the world of 7mm rem mags, one gun at a time.

Woodjack ----- Paul did a good job advising you and was spot on. I have taken many Elk, all with at least a .300 Win mag, most with a .340 Wby or .358 STA. I like big bullets with flat trajectories in order to control where on the animal I hit consistently, that placement of the bullet is extremely important and can save you much work and heartache. Beyond 300 yards I feel like I loose that control and try to limit my shots to that distance. My one Moose was taken with a 250 grain Nosler Partition Gold at 2900 fps from a .340 Wby, a one shot in his tracks take down. ----- I really like all your rifle choices and particularly bullet choices, I have gone almost exclusively to the North Fork bullets in all my rifles. They are a little more costly, but when I spend the money to go West to find the animals I want to hunt, I want the best bullet possible for that moment of truth. ![]() phurley

200 yards for a 7mm on a moose? From what I have seen Moose die pretty easy compared to Elk and other game. Don't listen to Paul on the 7mm ![]()
