Outfitter: Jake Jefferson of Black River Hunting Camps.

Dates: November 2016

PH: Jake Jefferson

Game sought: Sitka Blacktail Deer
Game Taken: 3 bucks

This was my 3rd time hunting with Jake but, it would be my first time hunting with him on Kodiak. Needless to say, his Kodiak area is incredibly beautiful and scenic.

The amount of deer we saw was amazing. We also saw some really nice bears.

Hunting with Jake is like hunting with a good friend. He does all his own guiding and is very personable. His sense of humor is one of the reasons I like to hunt with him. He kept me laughing the entire trip.

He also feeds his hunters with top notch food. Several times we had fresh scallops and bacon as hors d’oeuvres while he was cooking the main course.

The hunting although unseasonably warm, was still amazing and we saw a ton of bucks every day. I was able to connect with 3 really nice bucks and had a great time. Kodiak is an amazing place and I can’t wait to get back. I’m hoping to hunt goats with Jake next year.

When you hit that rut just right in November Kodiak is magic. Congrats on 3 really nice bucks.

I was stationed in Kodiak for 3 years and managed to take several SCI class deer while I was there. I miss it. Those deer are outstanding table fare. Much better than southeastern whitetail. What general area did you hunt?

Outstanding!

And I think I recognize that bay. Smiler

I hunted Kodak with Jake back in 2011. That was such a great hunt for the books. One of the conversations Jake and I had when the snow was falling revolved around the genetics of Kodiak island. Here was my trophy from that hunt:

I just KNEW I'd seen the rack on your #2 before! He hangs next to my fireplace.

The weather you got is fantastic. We had snow snow and snow! Smiler

Regards,

Robert
