The nephew will be back home in Alaska later on this week from Afghanistan, para rescue Ak Air Guard. He sent me this AF news story concerning a mission he was involved in a few weeks back and it's a good read, check it out. Make ya proud of our Ak men under arms. Alot of us are vets from one war or another and can relate. They had to rescue downed pilots. Soon as they dropped in from blackhawks, everything hit the fan. Their flight engineer and pavehawk was hit and had to fly back to base, leaving my nephew and other pj on the ground. they got the deceased pilot out of helo and other team had live pilot up on hill few hundred yards away with Afghans set up between them. He said he was stuck there over 5 hours, with Afghans kicking up rocks all around them all the while. When the Afghans tried blowing up downed helo, they had to scoot down this ravine so not as to be blown up when she went. Sounds quite interesting and the nephew said can't imagine how they weren't hit with all the shooting. Maybe killing caribou won't excite him anymore? Ya think? Hope all you Alaskans enjoy the read. http://www.bagram.afcent.af.mi...ory.asp?id=123254042

Great story. I'm sure you are very proud of him. My son is a Ranger and has on several occassions seen the PJs in action. Once it was to rescue a Ranger who was shot and fell 50 feet into a well. In the midst of a firefight, they rescued the Ranger and he has recovered. Once again, my thanks to your nephew. I'm glad he made it home safe. Zhurh: Glad he's safe & sound. Our men & women over there don't get enough kudos as far as I'm concerned. I have nothing but praise & respect for our guys over there. Please pass on best wishes from Denise & me. Talk with ya later, Bear Unless you're the lead dog, the scenery never changes. I never thought that I'd live to see a President worse than Jimmy Carter. Bear, There's like 30 para rescue guys here in Alaska, they kinda deal with what the state police can't with their resources from what I heard. Most are stationed in Anch but also rotate into Fairbanks every so many weeks. He went to Afghan back in Nov, coming home later this week; I just hope he doesn't get sent back every 6 months or so; kinda foul up life in Ak for him and all. Hope you all enjoyed reading the article. Good kid, named after my dad and takes after him too. Told me he'd be up in June for visit, throughout summer and then come fall to hunt. If he tells me he is in Fairbanks for a week or so duty, I'm giving him your number; you can take him to the range. Appreciate it. I've been watching bear feeding on bluffs above river all week, bunch of them. They keep trying to catch the sheep drinking water outta the Yukon, but no can do. Boy and daughter will be home from school pretty quick. Boy always shoots a bear out of stand with bow and now girl wants to get one with 6.8; should be fun. Myself, I like seeing them all on game camera as much as shooting one, ha.
