A FRIEND OF MINE HAS A CABIN ON THE DESKA RIVER,JUST WEST OF KASHWINTA LAKE ABOUT 25 MILES. IT LOOKS FAIRLY CLOSE TO ANCHORAGE, BUT IF IT ISN'T ROAD-ACCESSIBLE, MAYBE IT ISN'T SHOT OUT. lOOKING AT GOING UP THERE FOR MOOSE. ANYONE KNOW THE AREA?

the deshka gets hit pretty hard as its fairly close and a very popular fishing river. There very well might be some good bulls in the area but there are probably better areas for trophy bulls.

Anchorage area/ road system hunters are a dedicated lot and part of their dedication is putting their money where their mouth is in the form of hunting accesory/ transportation/ toys.

The Deshka may well yield some fine trophy moose, I wouldn't know, but you can bet there is hunting pressure.

I watched Jim Shockey last night and there were 3 very large moose taken at his hunting grounds. Someone said it was like $15,000 to hunt moose with him........don't know but it was a grand looking place. Good Luck!

FYI Jim's hunts run $22,000-$25,000 when you figure all costs. You cando a quality hunt in Alaska with similiar trophy expectations for $12,000-$15,000 all in.

Shockey's moose grounds are in the Yukon Territories, which is part of Canada, not Alaska.
