The bill nullifies a large swath of unconstitutional federal power over the right to keep and bear arms. It begins with the premise that violations of the 2nd Amendment are not law at all. It reads, in part: a statute, regulation, rule, or order that has the purpose, intent, or effect of confiscating any firearm, banning any firearm, limiting the size of a magazine for any firearm, imposing any limit on the ammunition that may be purchased for any firearm, or requiring the registration of any...

Truthfully, this was just a bunch of worthless political posturing. Were the law actually be brought to bear, all it would do is cost the state money to fight a federal law which would end up in the Supreme Court - which would almost certainly uphold federal precedence. Juneau loves to throw red herrings out to avoid actual, needed legislation. Dave

I live pretty rural, nearest State Police over 200 miles away and our road is often closed. We have so much more freedom than urban people it's nuts; and me likes it. Now I know you all watch AK troopers and know everything about urban law enforcement, but we sure never see them out this way and hasn't been a shooting in 30 years. In Alaska, the Gov puts out the way it's going to be, not D.C. The state Police follow his instructions and haven't enforced many fed laws for as long as I can remember. I'd much rather Parnell signing this law than enforcing feed law to the hilt like what occurs back east in many states. About every 20 years the Park Service acts up, the locals react and park people get fired or transfered; then no problems for another 20 years.

I like the attitude but in truth, no state can just nullify a Fed. regulation. Just as a7dave says. As Uncle Ted once said - "Alaska has no friends in Washington" and as far as I'm concerned they pretty well do what they wish with us. I suspect the only thing the governor could do is implement a "no state assistance" policy with Fed. agencies in the enforcement of what we/he considers unfair Federal policies. Zhurh: You're right, all they do is transfer the assholes to another district. That doesn't "fix" the problem tho. It's only allowing the "Richard Cranium's" to continue their iron fisted methods on someone else in another locale. Anyway, that's my opinion. Bear in Fairbanks Unless you're the lead dog, the scenery never changes. I never thought that I'd live to see a President worse than Jimmy Carter. Well, I have. Gun control means using two hands.

A friend recently asked about Alaskas views on guns and gun control issues. I told him that in my opinion, guns were so interwoven into every facet of Alaskan living that gun control wouldn't be taken seriously by anyone here. Theres guns in the airplanes. Guns in the cars, boats, snowmachines and entry hallways. Alaskans have guns in their garages, guns in the tractors, guns in the bedroom and guns at the office. Up here theres guns everywhere and it'd be quite simply impossible to enforce any gun control legislation. If Juneau is against federal gun control is sure ain't gonna get any traction anywhere else around here!
