After my successful grizzly hunt, I wasn't sure what to do with the hide. My guide suggested that I use Alpha Furs to tan the hide then send it to my taxidermist. That seemed to be a pretty good solution. I haven't been able to contact my guide, I'm sure that he's still hunting.

Could anyone give me the address and phone number of Alpha Furs in Fairbanks? I've searched the web, but can't find it. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

A lesson in irony

The Food Stamp Program, administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, is proud to be distributing this year the greatest amount of free Meals and Food Stamps ever, to 46 million people.

Meanwhile, the National Park Service, administered by the U.S. Department of the Interior, asks us... "Please Do Not Feed the Animals." Their stated reason for the policy is because "The animals will grow dependent on handouts and will not learn to take care of themselves."

Thus ends today's lesson in irony.

Alpha absolutely destroyed my brothers Mnt Goat from his 2005 hunt. The hid was obviously sanded too thin, causing all the hair to fallout. The hid was fleshed and delivered to the taxidermist the day after the kill. I would be cautious of using them. The Taxidermist on Kodiak stopped using them due to so many ruined hides.

I guess they do, or at least a place to ship from. I hunted out of Fairbanks.

458LottFan:

I hope they have improved since then. My guide swears by them. We'll see, but thanks for the heads up. I'll have my taxidermist check the hide as soon as he gets it.

458Lott fan, sorry to hear that (I'm not associated anyway with alpha fur).

My wife has been using Gary for about 12 years now and she hasnt had a problem. I have 5 bears that just came back and they are in great shape.

I am glad to hear that they are getting some good hides out of Alpha. You never know if they had a new person training on my brothers hide. It sure made me sick to see that beautiful hide trashed after all the work to get it. I will see if Ron will send me a couple of photos of the hide to post here.
