I am having a M70 made into a 375 H&H for general purpose usage and will use an Echols Legend stock. Question is concerning the barrel. Is it like tits on a boar to use a CM barrel with a synthetic stock or is a good metal coating e.g. Cerakote enough? BTW, the action is CM.

Your actually better off to use CM with CM and stainless with Stainless.

As when you have two different metal types you can and will have something called dissimilar metal corriosion. This is actually more common than corrosion due to exposure.

CM with your CM action then use something like Cerakote, or NP3.

CM and stainless don't interact with each other so you can do it either way. A properly coated CM barrel will handle the environment, just make sure you dry things off when you can. Make no mistake, stainless can corrode as well if not taken care of.

There is greater than a .15 Galvanic difference between the two of them it becomes an issue.

For CM and SS this is a factor as the difference is .27

I think that if you take your CM action and have it trued and then dipped before you barrel it, shouln't be an issue.

I didn't think there was even that much interaction between the two D99, thanks for the info. One of my rifles is setup with a CM action and stainless barrel from the factory. I guess I'll keep an eye open for any interaction. Fortunately I live in the dry desert though.

Stainless steel barrels give greater lifespan . If it is just a quicky gun that you will change soon then cm is a little cheaper . If you want to be useing the rifle as a tool for the next 40 years go with stainless and moderate loads .. The 375 is a good round for longevity ..
