Brown Bear hunt
Hi there,

I have decided to go on a coastal brown bear hunt. I would like to go to the Kodiak island area. What would be the best time to go fall or spring? I am looking for a large bear. Any recomendations on an outfitter?

Fred, My Kodiak outfitter Karl Braendel offers limited 15 day brown bear hunts on Kodiak Island. He runs a very successful hunt and knows as much about big boars as any guide I've ever known. If you would like some info just drop me a line. It truly is a hunt of a lifetime and you will hunt remote areas where 9.5'-10' bears live.
Regards,
David

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......

If you aren't 100% on Kodiak, look at the Peninsula. Dan Montgomery at Alaska Trophy Adventures guides to a lot of big bears. They only hunt every other year, and in 09 killed 3 book bears. There are two ATA's, and Dan's doesn't have a website. Give him a call at 907-373-4898.

almost any area on kodiak has 9.5-10 foot bears, even the road system. what you need to know going into your search is kodiak has state land and refuge lands, of which one is open to mulitple guides per area and refuge lands are usually exclusive use areas. so you would have about a 100 percent change of drawing a tag, state land areas you might have a 20-75 percent chance at drawing a tag depending on the areas.
exclusive areas your going to pay for, most hunts going over the 20,000 mark, state land usually a little less, some for 14,000-the 20g's as well. all areas have good bears, depends on weather, you and just hitting it right...
personally i think spring is the best, more daylight, less grass better visability...but hides are more apt to be gettin' funky....
