Snow don't necessarily mean winter, these were second week of April 2017 Brown Bears in my area come in & out of there dens when ever they feel like it.
I'm familiar with the concept of snow.. LOL. we got a foot yesterday and it's warmed all the way up to negative-5 at 11 am. today.
we just don't see big fat bears roaming around in the winter here. maybe scrawny hungry ones in May or so, and very occasionally a confused one pokes out during the January thaw.
