I sure like using a 22 short on the deer of Prince of Wales Island....Oh sure I sometimes sneek out the long rifle when it's a big one!
Never had to use a mag though...22 mag that is.
Hope we get off the bear stuff too.

Well the .22 short uses very effcient case. But the new .22 Ruger is by far and away the most effcient .22 short that's ever been designed.

Of course you should only use a .22 in mauser style action. You just can't be to careful in big bear country.

As a former deer poacher of some experience. Use .22 solids only for deer, and yes CRF only.

Hi Mr. Stevens,

You serious response brought back something my Grandpa told me many years back. He was a meat hunter and thought very highly of the .22 as a meat gun. He was a strong proponent of the solid point and lung shots. He also liked that you could carry 50 arounds of .22 in the same space and weight of several 30-30 rounds. I miss the old guy. Frowner
