Wondering if I should purchase a wolverine tag? I will be brown bear hunting in this unit. I have read that wolverines will feed on a dead bear carcass. Tried to find some info. on density in this region, but struck out. Any help would be appreciated.

Finding a wolverine is opportunistic at best. Having the tag and not using is is ok also. If you carry a wolf tag (and it is legal) you can use on wolverine.

No that would be incorrect. The price of the tag must be greater or the same as the one you are using to replace it with.

You could use a sheep, moose, bison, goat or brown bear tag to kill a wolverine though.

At the end of the day it is only $175. I think you are always better off having one.

The odds of getting a wolverine are super small though. You might have a 1 in 30 chance of getting one. But since a wolverine tag is only $175 it's good insurance. I'd buy 2 or 3 wolf tags as well, especially since they are cheap.

Non resident trapping is only $250, that is what I would buy.

I was considering the wolverine tag for the above reason, the $175 compared to the bear hunt price is nothing. I have already purchased 1 wolf tag for $30. If I buy the wolverine tag, would that serve as a second wolf tag?

Call the ADF&G Biologist for unit 6

Be carfull of the advice of a trapping lic. Most likely the trapping season won't be open when your on a fall bear hunt.
On the other hand the hunting season in GMU 6 opens for wolverine Sept 1.

Odds of getting a wolverine are slim at best- much better chance of getting a crack at wolves, esp. if you are hunting Controller Bay/Bering River portion of 6-B.

15-16 years back, was out on the Innoko, fly in. Had called in two bulls and had our hands full cuttin and baggin. The two bulls were within 75 yards of each other. I had shot the first and while we were cutting it up, buddy called his in. We had a wolverine come in on the gut pile, stood there grinnin & snarlin at us as we worked on the other bull. Pretty funny actually, didn't even think about shooting it. I see half dozen or so around where we live every year; kinda like seeing them and they never seem to get over populated like wolves.
