This was my fifth DIY fly out hunt with Renfro's Alaskan Adventures and I've never been disappointed. My buddy and I flew out on our long awaited ridgetop moose hunt last September. We saw shooters (over 60") everyday and called in multiple moose everyday. This hunt is not for everyone as it's like a backpack hunt because you don't have much for amenities and you are literally going up and down mountains hunting moose. We had a blast and shot two giants. Mine was a spot and stalk bull as we couldn't get him to come to us as he had 6 cows with him. My partners moose was called in from over 3 miles away. We spotted his moose at 9am and he didn't shoot it until 5pm. Packing both moose was quite the affair considering we aren't allowed to bone them out. My moose was 70 1/8 and officially scores 221 1/4. My partners moose was 65 inches and officially scores 214. <IMG class="inline_image" SRC=" "Take your kid hunting, so you don't have to go hunting for your kid." What is the idiotic rationale for not allowing hunters to bone out a moose? Just curious.

The rationale is people were leaving meat in the field when they boned it. Less plane trips means less money. Like everything else, someone ruined it for everyone. "Take your kid hunting, so you don't have to go hunting for your kid." Ted Nugent

Awesome bulls, Kusko! Enjoy it while you can! Kusko is spot on with the rationale for criminalizing boning out a moose in some units. It's the result of too many instances of "failure to salvage" and "wanton waste". I tell people that a no-bullshit way to get an idea of dealing with a dead moose is to buy a small car, drive it somewhere off the road at least 1/2 a mile away (further is better), get it stuck in a gully or the back pasture or swamphole and then hike back there with a tool kit, disassemble it and pack everything back to the road on your back.
