I am open to any and all advice, opinions, and anecdotes regarding how best to arrange a Sitka blacktail hunt. Details regarding guides, outfitters, charters, equipment lists, time of year, etc. all much appreciated. PMs are fine if you'd rather talk offline. Good hunting!

mcb - in my experience with blacktail in various areas in / near Prince William Sound and southeast Alaska, blacktail are not as "crafty" or "aloof" as whitetail deer. Try to hunt late, like cold zero suggests in November, and if the deer are around you will have no problems locating them. KMule

A trip I've always wanted to do was Honker Divide Canoe Trail on POW. I talked to a Forest Service Ranger in Thorne Bay about this trip. He says that few people do this canoe trip at all in any one year, let alone during the fall season. The chance for a trophy black bear comes with the trip, as well as great fishing and the possiblility of waterfowl hunting. A couple Forest Service cabins are on the route. One of the cabins is on a lake, so (with a satellite phone) you can "call in air support" to haul meat out mid-trip. Looks like a great adventure to me.
