Anybody know a good location...maybe one with a forest service cabin near it?

Not looking for anything great just a nice week in the woods and the chance to collect a Sitka blacktail.

Mike, heres the link to the cabin rentals. PWS is a nice place. Been hearing of alot of die off on kodiak. S.E. seems to be strong also.

Hard part is getting a cabin. they go quick.

A lesson in irony

The Food Stamp Program, administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, is proud to be distributing this year the greatest amount of free Meals and Food Stamps ever, to 46 million people.

Meanwhile, the National Park Service, administered by the U.S. Department of the Interior, asks us... "Please Do Not Feed the Animals." Their stated reason for the policy is because "The animals will grow dependent on handouts and will not learn to take care of themselves."

Thus ends today's lesson in irony.

Most of the cabins see alot of hunting pressure, so brining a small zodiak to get away from the cabin will open up a bunch of hunting.

Alot of areas got hammered last winter so the deer numbers are down in alot of areas. Put in some phone time contacting biologists before comitting to an area.

MIke,

I have done two DIY blacktail hunts on Prince of Wales Island. Once I stayed at a cabin in town (near Craig) and another time just a tent at the end of a logging road. Both worked fine. The suggestion to use a boat to accessmore remote areas makes sense, especially if realy after a "trophy". The roaded areas get hunted quite a bit, and as a result trophy quality can slip. That being said, we still managed to take representative animals, and have a great, inexpensive trip. I have considered staying in the forest service cabins, but understand the pressure there can be quite high as well.
Good luck,
Bill

I know there are a few deer around White Sulphur Springs cabins. There probably is better deer areas, but this one has the scenery ,fishing and hottub as well. Bohemia creek out of Pelican has some good trails and a few deer as well.
