I'm looking for a transporter/guide for a semi guided hunt for my Koyukuk moose tag I drew this fall. A good friend recommended Craig Hill of Alaksa Challenge. I'm still waiting to hear back from him, but wanted to cover all of my bases. PM if you prefer. Thanks guys.

May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.
May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.

My suggestion is to go to the State of Ak. web site where you can access the names of busineses. Sorry, don't have a link. Go to the Dep't. of Occupational Licensing and do a search for Transporters (maybe it's Guides & Transporters) in the pull down menu.
I think you'll need Excel to open it up & look at it tho. You submit your quiery and then receive an e-mail listing, including business name, address, phone #, etc. we've used this before.
Justa thought.

Thanks for the tip. I sent a written request by fax yesterday to the woman that handles occupational licensing for guides and transporters. I'm looking for info on Craig or anyone else that someone can recommend in the area. Thanks.

Brett,

I have used Charlie Green out of Galena for transport by boat. Also used Joe Schuster (sp?) for air taxi service. If you are going in to the Koyokuk controleed use area, flight service is obviously out. Have you considered going in by boat from the bridge? I've done that before in my own boat. Not for the unprepared, but it made the entire trip a great adventure.

My tag is for the area imediately west of the control use area so flying isn't out. I've heard Charlie Green recommended from a few others. Thank for the info.

I think he means someone that does air transports that can give him some direction or guidance where to go while dropping him off, not neccessarily guide him, he's probably going solo....He's an adrenaline junkie, and likes to challenge the elements.......

Give Andy Hawk at Hawk's gunsmithing a call 562-0881, Andy spends time moose hunting out of Galena each year and I believe he knows Charlie personally.

P.S. Andy is a 1st rate gunsmith, can't know enough good gunsmiths

Craig will be transporting me through Charlie Green and then dropping me with a jet boat! I'm going to be hunting the 16-25th. Should be a lot of fun!!! Now I just need to find a partner!
