Yeah. I paid that much for factory loaded ammo. So what?!

I bought the remaining 3 boxes on the shelf, figuring this is one of the cartridges that may go 'Dodo'.
Now, I've got 100-rds. of factory loaded Hornady SP 270-gr. and the BRASS to back it up.
Tell me, please...what would YOU load into the brass for Washington State or Alaskan BIG GAME?

I'm thinkin' Nosler 260-gr. AccuBond.

260 Grain Accubonds at 3000 FPS... or for bear, 350 Woodleighs at 2500 FPS.

I would look to Nosler, Northfork, Swift or Barnes. Any of those would do fine.

I've had nothing but unpleasant experiences with Nosler Accubond. They are very accurate, but when striking bone, they explode like a handgrenade. I do not consider them significantly different from a Ballistic Tip. This may not be a concern if you are hunting for horns but it certainly is if you value the meat.

I traded all of mine for Nosler Partitions and am much happier.

Your experience/expectations may differ.

Heck, just the brass for my 500 Jeffrey costs twice that much.

I'd likely try the Barnes 270 gr triple shock, you don't need 300's unless you're hunting thick skinned game.

EXACTLY.
And, I don't need 'CRF', either.
This .375 was meant for North American game, probably the biggest & meanest ELK.
'MAYBE' a Brown Bear.

The information I'm looking for is for MY gun and probable situations and I thank you Gentlemen for providing such...! Wink

When I finally end up with a reloading set-up, having this information to fall back on will be invaluable.
What I'm seeking is intel on the kind of bullet to shoot at the game I'll be hunting down the road.
What goes into an ELK or Brown Bear and drops 'em without blowing up? We've got one answer to that one already!
More. Gimme MORE! Big Grin
Thank you!

I don't have a RUM but for my H&H I settled on the 270 grain Partition for North America and Barnes' 300g TSX and 300g Banded Solids for Africa.

Aren't the Barnes X noted for being LONG, hence better penetration?
Isn't the .375 one of those calibers known for necessity of 'grains' to gain BC/SD?

The .338 is a caliber that is supposed to 'fly' better and have better SD than the .375.
SO, would the Barnes bullets be a good choice to make up for the apparent shortcoming of needing a longer bullet?

I don't have a RUM but my 375H&H mostly gets loaded with bullets starting with 300 gr. I have had no complaints with the Nosler and the Barnes will put a hole in a moose like a drill. You can eat up to the hole. YMMV

Thanks.
I'll keep an eye open for boxes of this stuff and get it whenever I'm able to.

I still haven't fired the gun!
No excuses, just haven't taken the time.

Looking forward to knowing if the 100-rds. I've purchased will be enough or if a lot of it will be sold with a 'fired once' rifle! Wink
