Can anyone tell me what you'd expect to pay to have a Bear Skin tanned.
Also any recommendations on a good taxidermist based in Anchorage.
Thank You.

TrackersNZ i don't know about the commercial price even more so up there, but you could buy the supplies to do it yourself if you wanted... the supplies aren't all that expensive and it's a fun hobby to get into, the company i use for my supplies is WASCO (Wildlife Artist Supply Company)... something you may look into

Thanks for the thought. I'd love to tan my own, but logistically can't as I'm from overseas. (New Zealand, South Pacific) I do most of my own skin preparation down here.
My local taxidermist tells me it's best to have the hide tanned over in Alaska before I ship it home, reason being, that customs prefer tanned to salted and also the tanned skin is likely to be more stable in transit i.e. if it gets held up someplace for some reason. I only have a few days after my hunt to get organised with a taxidermist, so trying to find one in advance. Welcome any recommendations.
And hey I have to sucessfully hunt the bear first.

It typically goes by the "foot", but it also has to do with the quality. Some sew the hide to the felt, others glue it. My brother had a record book bear done and it cost him 2000.00 + but it was well worth the price. I've had 2 done, the first cost me 700, the next was 800. There both average jobs. If you want it done right, expect to pay at least 1500.00, quality never comes cheap. If it's sown to the felt, it will probably last longer. Eventually the glue will come loose. Tanning is a big part of it as well. A quality hide starts the moment you pull the trigger, or in the case of a big bear, the moment you jerk it!

Whoops! Should have read your post a little closer. You said "tanned", not a finished product. I would think around 500.00 for a quality tanned hide.

I don't know what it would coust but I'd take it to Knight's Taxidermy in Anchorage. Knight's Taxidermy Russ has one of the biggest and best in Anchorage and has been in the business almost 30 years.
