I am booked to hunt brown bear with Wildman Lodge on the peninsula in October. My first hunt for brown bear so looking forward to it... hope for success and will post pics if it happens.

Do I remember correctly that Butch recently sold Wildman? That part of the Peninsula is The Best! Headed close by to fish in June.

Crane,
If he and Kathy sold he didn't tell me. Last saw him at DSC and traded emails a couple of weeks ago when I was trying to get airfare booked.

Checked his website and it looks different but think his old site was hacked. New website still shows him in the literature.

I've fished and bird hunted for ptarmigan a couple of times with Wildman. Always a good time.

Must just be the rumor mill. You should have a great trip. Will be up there chasing salmon in two weeks, about 40 miles give or take from Wildman. Some of the most beautiful country on the planet.

Probably a Kevin Weaver .375 Ruger built on a pre-64 M70 and stocked in a HiTech synthetic stock. I think it has a Leica 1.75x6 on it... should be decent bear medicine.

I use a LH Ruger Hawkeye in 375. I topped it withan older Leupold VarX-III 2.5x8. One shot kill on my grizzly. I used factory Hornady 270 grain ammunition.

Your good to go IMO.

Russell, that region is some of the most remote, wild country on earth. Tons of bears on the streams in the fall. I hunted Moose near there, by Black Lake; and I’ll always remember the ‘wildness’. You’re in for a great hunt!

Yes I am really looking forward to this trip. Four trips to Alaska and I have never hunted big game, just fishing and wingshooting so this is going to be a treat!
