Congrats on a successful hunt, great pictures.

I haven't hunted deer since I moved to Alaska, seeing this thread and others about deer hunts is really making me think its time to plan a blacktail hunt.

Dave

I'm thinking about coming up to hunt moose again in a couple of years. If you and your brother can pack a whole deer like that I've got a job for you.

Seriously congrats! Hell of a shot.

Yeah...it's that time of year again. Blacktail rut is more fun than Xmas, and lasts longer.

Glad you guys like the pics. Brother Bill had a load on his shoulders, for sure.

Mark, we don't work cheap...<grin>

We're headed out on Monday for 4 weeks of rut hunting...

More to come....

Dave, I though the rut was on so bad that the buck was trying to hump you!!! roflmao

During the peak of the rut, I've had the following happen to me twice. I have dropped a fully-rutted-out buck and am either gutting or boning him out. Another buck will approach me smelling the rival [not spooked by gutpile or cut up meat apparently.] On one of the occasions, I reached for the rifle [which is always an arms length away in bear country] chambered another round and shot a three-pointer. The second time a spike approached. I had one bucked dropped down below me about 1/2 mile from the beach and was just about boning out a 3-pointer about 1-mile from the beach. I thought about dropping a third buck (would have been a personal 1-day record) for about 5 seconds and then knew better.

I hunted on Admiratly Island over 4 days this past weekend. Rut just not quite on yet. Called in plenty of does. Finally found a spike in the morning on the last day herding three does. What 'till I post some "monster" pics. In Los Anchorage now - camera at home in Juneau.

Got a 5-day hunt planned in Mid-Nov.

"4 weeks of rut hunting!!!!!" I've green with envy.

MM

Out of all the hunting trips I have done in Alaska I have found the deer hunting to be the most fun. Son and I are heading to Kodiak on Friday for a 9 day hunt. Flying in and setting up our Arctic Oven and hunting the high country. Maybe I can finally fiqure out how to post a picture when we get back!

How do I get permission to post photos?

My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost.

Permission granted! Big Grin

It's actually only a matter of figuring out how to do this. Click the image button on the window you are typing your messages in, insert the URL to where you have stored the pictures and they should show up. The thing is you will have to store the pics on a different site somewhere. Look around in a few other forums, you can find a detailed description on how to go about there.
