Because both those cartridges require a longer action which means more weight to the rifle. Since I'm paying a bunch of money for a custom sheep rifle......I care a lot about the wieght!

SnellstromHey Brett
Do you have a gunsmith selected for your Sheep rifle?
Kevin Weaver of Weaver Rifles would be my first choice, really light and really accurate rifles are his claim to fame.
He also builds customs with fancy wood too and builds a rifle or two every year for the Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep Foundation too.
Even if you end up going with someone else he is someone you should talk to.
Here is his number: 719-683-3024

SnellstromSo have you decided 6.5 or 7 WSM?

BrettAKSCI7mm wsm. I looked at various 6.5mms and I just couldn't justify it. Really no advantage in the 6.5mm out to 400 yards. After 400 is where you begin to see the difference. At 500 the 6.5 outperforms the 7mm, but just barely. That's really niether here nor there as I'm not comfortable shooting past 500 yards. I also like shooting the 150 grain bullet with a .02" diameter bigger bore in bear country.
