The crash was within sight of our cabin, I saw it happen, and they were hunting within a couple mile of our camp.

One of many ways the outdoors can get you.

Even though completely out of their element, They had been doing fine out of doors. It wasn't until they got in a plane that they had trouble !

Overloading a plane, and then taking off from a small pond,with an unfavorable wind was the issue.

A tsunami? They didn't have much to say about that. A plane crash I could understand. But what about the tsunami...

I'm glad everyone is OK.

I was on the Nancy Lakes Canoe Trail several years ago enjoying the peace and quiet. A helo goes over me (quiet went away!) and there was a plane on a "string" under it. I thought "That must be expensive." I bet the plane in this thread is going to cost some $ to recover.

Speaking of $. After the plane crashed who paid for the plane that picked up the hunters and their meat?

I think usually insurance is involved. Commercial carriers have insurance requirements. I have a coast guard licence for passenger/ motorboat transport and insurance is a requirement.
I doubt the crashed hunters were billed for additional expenses post crash.

Insurance will go up for all of us pilots and guides, which means prices for hunters and fishermen will go up

Alaska, moose. Not hard ground like in the Lower 48. Not elk.

Sounds like the plane was overloaded, in ground effect, and not really flying. Choose your transporter or pilot wisely. This stuff happens way too often.

What happened to the moose?

Or just stalled ?

Overloaded. Barely got off the ground going over a plateau. Left wing hit tree, right wing hit tree, spiraled into ground.

Sorry to hear it. Glad it was only that bad
