Done deal.

For me, I'm going to have a shoot-out, between the 9.3x62 Zastava, a 9.3x62 M700 rebore, and a Tikka T3 that's supposed to be headed my way. From there I'll determine the fate of the 1st and 2nd place 'losers'. The 'winner' will go with to the dark continent with me, along with a yet to be determined DR.

I was hoping to leave it as is but Allen Martin posted a picture of a mini with new bottom metal. I now have pictures of James Anderson's work dancing around in my head.

30-06 with double trigger = a fun project

9.3x62 = another rifle to take up space in my safe since I just built one up on a stainless Ruger platform

My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost.

The .22-250 will be set up as my serious coyote rig. I'am not sure yet how I'am going to refine it, untill I get it in my hands and get a feel for it.
The other was supposed to be a 6.5x55 Swede I changed the caliber last minute to .30-06. My thought was to have a back up for my Dakota .30-06 which I was contemplating selling. I love the rifle but the stock does not fit me well. I don't think the stock can be bent enouph to fit. If I have another stock made I'am going to get peanuts for the stock that's on it now. On the other hand it's not that easy getting Left hand Dakota barreled actions and not cheap, choices choices. The Zastava .30-06 I'am going to have some fun with it. I would like to make it look like the pre war Mausers grade A style, with matching type stock small schnabel front end, small cheek piece etc.
The action I want it butter smooth and 100% reliable for feed and function. Sweated barrel sling swivel and double square bridges. I have a Leu. 2.5-8x36 with BC reticle waiting. It will not have any engraving or exhibition grade walnut just an appealing field rifle. If all goes well I would like to get a 6.5x55 with a full Mannlicher stock and do every thing the same as the .30-06.

I have a double trigger 6.5x55 on the way. I'd really like to shorten the barrel to 18-19 inches and have a Mannlicher stock, butterknife bolt handle and a 3 position safety.

I have some old Leupold Detarhcho mounts that I love, on an older comercial 98 Mauser that I plan to swap to my 7 X 57 LH 98 if they will work.

I would love to find X tra Detacho Mounts, have rings, for a 98, Win 70 , or Rem 700 or 760.

They have a built in Peep sight plus lever release.

I've got a 7x57 coming. I will eventually doll it up with a three position safety, nice stock and maybe even some work on the action to replicate some of the early Mausers. I have always wanted a left handed 7x57 and even had a Montana 99 action at one time with that idea but it was to heavy for what I wanted and really the 7x57 belongs in a Mauser. For now I will just use it and enjoy it. I've had a couple of them in right handed rifles and enjoyed them. I look forward to one with the bolt on the correct side. dancing

"...I advise the gun. While this gives a moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprize, and independance to the mind. Games played with the ball and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun therefore be the constant companion of your walks." I've also been giving some thought to an 8x68S. Other than opening the boltface does anyone know what other work would need to be done to the standard size Zastava?

For what it's worth, a friend of mine had bought a Steyr 8x68S after a hunt in Europe.

After shooting it, he found it no better ballistically and far more expensive to 'feed' than his .338 Win. Mag.

You guys are having as much fun dreaming about the guns as you'll have once they get here. There is something to be said of the acticipation being about as good as the realization. I ordered a 7.2X39 with DST. I have a piece of figured cherry that will be copied from the original stock once I recontour it.

Guys,

I am looking at this for a safety and noted it would be on the right side which would be much more natural:

Can anyone see any problems with this?
