I just received the stock for this but have decided to try to sell it before firing it. The rifle is a left hand Montana Rifle Company stainless barreled action with a McMillan stock. $1,500 plus shipping to your dealer.
Wanting to fund another Hein rifle.

I can't in good faith sell this rifle. After assembling it to the stock I loaded up four dummy rounds to check feeding and ejecting. It bascially will not feed and when it does pick one up from the magazine it usually jams before it goes into the barrel. Once I am able to get a round to feed properly it will not eject it. I am not a gunsmith but I noticed the ejector does not even go beyond the bolt face when the bolt is fully pulled back. It appears to me it could be as simple as them installing the correct bolt stop because as it stands now the bolt can't even clear the magazine.
This one is going back to MRC for a full work over before it could even be taken to the range. Very disappointed in the quality of this rifle company. My initial impressions when I first bought it were very good but what good is it if it can not feed or eject?

Snowwolfe,

Sorry to hear of your problems with your new Leftie. You are doing the correct thing by posting here and letting others know of your problems. As to Montana Rifleman requiring you to pay return postage, not good.

I too experienced problems with MR. It was a number of years ago and was not related to the new MR actions.

I sent a brand new Browning Model 71 to them for re-barelling and chambering to 450 Alaskan. I had to send the gun in 3 times be-fore the gun worked as it should have. On the second return, it would drop hammer on half-cock while pulling the trigger. Not good!

Wouldn't chamber the first time it was sent to me.

Since my episode with them, they supposedly had corrected all smith problems. Hope your gun is just a fluke and not a sign of potential manufacturing bugs.

BTW, I too had to pay return postage for repairs.

Hang tough, and get what you paid for.

As to choice of bullets causing the problem, shouldn't be a problem.

I hate reading this. I am having a .35 Whelen built on a MRC LH long action, as we speak! Frowner

Doubless,

Hopefully your gun will be fine. Have not read or heard of any other new MR guns giving problems Snowwolfe has encountered.
His gun may have just slipped by the QC folks.
Shouldn't have, but it happens.
The way they resolve this, should answer the rest of the buyers worries.
I do think they should make good on any warranty shipping costs.
Hope Snowolfe keeps us posted as to the way he is treated.

As I said, I am not a smith but it appears they installed either an incorrect bolt stop or an incorrect part on the bolt that hits the bolt stop. From examining the action either of these would prevent the bolt from retracting as far as it needed to go to pick up the round.
I asked Jon if they checked the barreled actions for feeding before they were shipped and he said they did. But honestly now, how could they?
All this aside I like the action and barrel and it pretty smooth. I hope they fix it correctly.
This is a portion of my email that went to them:
"I am not very happy after paying $900 plus for your rifle and then having to pay $25.75 to ship it back to you for you to fix something that should of never left the factory in this condition".
They never replied back so time will tell how they handle this.

You would think that they would of test fired the gun before letting it out of the shop. If nothing else just for safety reasons. After all this is not a .22 rim fire here.

How did you make out Snowolfe?

I posted this on the Big Bore forum earlier today:
I received the barreled action back from MRC with a note they changed out the bolt stop to the proper one. I did not have a chance to check it out before I went moose hunting. This morning I checked feeding and ejecting with Swift 400 grain and Barnes 450 grain XXX's. At this point it will feed and eject both rounds well. There are no rough spots while cycling the bolt and I am happy with how slick the action operates. Much better than a factory W70.
As soon as time permits I will put it in the stock and fire off a few and post the results.
At this point in time MRC fixed what was wrong with it and did so in a fast manner. Kudo's to them for that.

I am still miffed at having to spend $26 to ship the action to them and then another $6 to ship dummy rounds when it was entirely there lack of quality control that caused the problem.

Live and learn, this still could be a very inexpensive way for a lefty to obtain a SS CRF 458 Lott if it works out. I have my fingers crossed.

I seem a little apprehensive don't I, lol.
