Is Ruger discontinuing the M77 left handed and moving all left handed to American Rifle serie?

They online catalog only shows Ruger Scout and Ruger 375 in left handed and nothing for the other M77 models ?

Seems to be they did away with a lot of their nice rifles when they went to the hawk eye series and guide rifles

if they did it sucks - Ruger gave a really affordable mauser action.

Wayne at AHR built me a really nice 30/06 on a ruger action.

Next week I drive from FL to TX for some work stuff and looking at houses in FT Worth.

Will try and hit some Cabelas and Gander Mountain to see if they have any left handed rifle - they normally used to carry few.

30/06, 370 or 300 win mag.

Picked up a 300 win mag left handed at gander mountain for $749 before tax

Always wanted a 300 win mag - now I need to shoot it a bit and then send it to Wayne at AHR to be remade

Try buds guns and cdnn. They're closing them out. Just got a 338 RCM for $499 at cdnn

I saw the 338 rcm - I don't know the round at all.

I needed a 300 win mag - have many 375 tigers.

338 seems like a lost child between 300 and 375 - too small for Africa - may be perfect for n America

Going to research the round and may buy one - thanks

Yes. They dropped the LH Hawkeyes from their catalog at the first of the year. No run on them yet but the supply is slowly drying up.

www.budsgunshop.com has some for $551, IIRC they are the .300 WM and .204 Ruger. Still a couple on gunbroker for $619, search for "ruger lefty" - why they used lefty instead of left is beyond me. As noted above, CDNN was blowing out the .375 Rugers, Alaskan and African, for $599.99 but the satin blued Africans are all gone now.

Hornady has some loads that shoot as flat as a 300 win mag. The appeal to me was a short light rifle instead of my 9 1/2 lb 300 win mag for bears and elk. The rifle is 6 3/4 with a light scope 7 3/4

338 RCM has the same ballistics as the 338/06 but out of a shorter barrel in a rifle that is generally lighter with a short action. Mine is a keeper. I would use mine on any animal in North America without reservation. It feeds and functions 100%.
Can't say enough positive things about it. Its just a sweet light handling rifle and one of the best buys on the market if you are a lefty. All I did to mine was glass bed it and change out the trigger spring and it easily shoots better than MOA. One of these days will get around to installing a recoil pad on it as the LOP is a little short.

My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost.

This guy sells them:

But I do not know who the maker is. They lightened the pull by about 1 pound.

How does 338 RCM compare to 375 Ruger ?

Worth adding one or does the 375 Ruger do everything ?

Thanks,

Mike

Think of the 375 Ruger as having comparable ballistics to a 375 H&H. Some claim the Ruger is more powerful but it is just splitting hairs to be honest.

As I mentioned before the 338 RCM is similar as the 338/06.

I own both but if I had to pick one for the lower 48 it would be the 338 RCM.

I am not very informed on ballistics ect so I apologize in advance if my question is ignorant

Would a 338 rcm shoot flatter further out than a 375 ruger? How would it compare to 300 win mag ?

Thanks

Mike

Depends on the bullet. Check out both rounds in a reloading manual.
If you compare a 200 or 210 out the 338 RCM against a 300 gr out of the 375, then yes the 338 would be flatter.
Enough to make any real different up to 300 yards? Not really.

Look at the hornady superformance loads, they will equal standard 300 win mag loads

Would one of you with an RCM-caliber Ruger measure the maximum length of the magazine for me? Would really appreciate it.

The box on my 300 RCM measures 2.9", give or take a few thou. Feeds a dummy round at 2.880" just fine. Most of the bullets I've loaded end up being 2.8 to 2.860 in OAL. Still way shy of the lands but it shoots so well I don't think being closer to the lands would make a big difference.
Good luck,
Steve

Thank you for the info. I've been using Rem 700 short actions with the box modified to 3.1, but would like to convert to all Ruger 77s. With many of the new super bullets, that extra little bit of room available in the case can help.
