I can't see the detail (old eyes) are any magnum length actions?

After a carry handgun and an AR lower receiver that I have to build, I want to do a big bore.

well the remington long is long enough but it has a standard bolt face. the mausers are also standard bolt bace but they to could be altered if need be.

i always wanted to get a rigby but so far nothing in controlled feed is available in my price range, so i wait. who ever gets it out first i'm buying. the montana ph, the williams action or maybe the cz.

i already have a sako in 375 imp. and a montana in 458 lott, it still needs finished.

We're going to be "gifted" with a health care plan we are forced to purchase and fined if we don't, Which purportedly covers at least ten million more people, without adding a single new doctor, but provides for 16,000 new IRS agents, written by a committee whose chairman says he doesn't understand it, passed by a Congress that didn't read it but exempted themselves from it, and signed by a President, with funding administered by a treasury chief who didn't pay his taxes, for which we'll be taxed for four years before any benefits take effect, by a government which has already bankrupted Social Security and Medicare, all to be overseen by a surgeon general who is obese, and financed by a country that's broke!!!!! Butch Searcy of Boron, California is a famous double rifle maker who also makes a number of high end bolt action rifles.

Here's his website.
http://www.searcyent.com/

He lives about 90 miles from me and lets me visit and drool occasionally.

Sorry I was not more specific...I know Butch very well and own 2 of his doubles. My question was about the action. Can you provide additional details. I know he once imported some a few years ago...is this what you have. Is it a Mag Mauser action? What stampings are on the action?

the searcy and the witchita are solid bottom single shot actions. it is a left bolt, left port action with a .473 boltface and a remington trigger hanger. i bought the searcy many years ago new and i believe they were made by him in this country.

Thanks for sharing. I these are not the actions I was thinking of. At one time I think butch had imported some Magnum Mauser actions...I think they were Vektor's. It was years ago when this discussion took place and if I recall correctly he said it was more trouble than it was worth.
Good luck with future projects...you have a lot of opportunity ahead of you!

If I may be so bold, I'd like to find one of those CD Mini-Mauser actions and make either a 6.8 (new mil caliber), or a .250 Ackley Improved on it. Got a good gunsmith in town who has worked on the CDs and a good stocksmith (also in town) with a storage area of wood I like to drool over. The rifle would be made petite in height and width, but still a 22" bbl and a 13-3/4" length of pull. Topped with a Leupold 2-7 compact scope, I think it would be my final woods-walking rifle. Both of the above gentlemen are looking for the action so they can talk me out of some more money. Roll Eyes

prof242,

there is a fellow over on gunbroker who is a mauser gunsmith in new york state. he had, as of last week, both the long action and the mini action cd mauser action up for auction. you might check over there. if you can't find it let me know and i will get his contact info for you when i go to my shop. i built a left handed mini into a 6.8 spc for my 11 year old son. i didn't like the laminate stock he picked out but what the heck, he did and its his gun. hopefully we can find him a deer to shoot this fall with it.
