I need some help on this one. I just saw, what is being sold as, a factory Ruger left hand Hawkeye SS, 375 Ruger w/20" bbl and Laminated (grey) stock. The gun is on Gunsamerica under Item # 944237814.
This would be news to me. Has Ruger gone and done this?? The price is $875.00.
Thanks.

Has to be custom, Ruger has not made any Lt. handed stainless steel Hawkeye in any caliber. Most likely someone took a stainless M77 Mark II and had it made.

I just recieved an answer to my query by the owner. The rifle is in fact a factory rifle, built by Ruger as a "Distributor Rifle". Apparently Ruger builds non-standard, non- catalogued rifles for their distributors from time to time. This is one of those rifles. The barrel has all the proper Ruger markings and the owner has the box etc. Now if we could only convince Ruger to make it a standard production item.

I have a question in to the owner right now as to whether the stock is a Hawkeye profile or a standard M77. If it's a Hawkeye, I do plan to buy it. That said, if anyone decides they want it regardless and beats me to it. So be it.
Money talks ,as they say.
I just have never really liked the feel of the standard M77 stock.

sbsmith,

Would it be possible for you to find out who the 'distributor' was that Ruger made these rifles for? I REALLY want one, and would try tracking down another for myself.

I'd be paying through the nose by the time all the hoops are jumped through to get it imported into my country, but.......

Thank you, if you can help with that info.

Regards.

The Ruger is sold. No surprise there and not to me. The seller is; Electric City Shooters Supply in Great Falls, Montana. I didn't get a phone number but it shouldn't be to difficult to find.

We snooze we loose. I have an extra Hawkeye stock for the 375 if anyone wants to take a M77 action for their next project.

Thanks,
Dirk

Sorry you didn't get it sbsmith. Thanks for the sellers name. I did eventually find the listing on gunamerica.com...... SOLD, like you said.

I am actively looking for more of these rifles or at least my 'suppliers' are. Will post here if any more turn up.

Also, another LH SS Lam 375 Ruger model is/may be out there. This one reportedly has a 23" clean barrel and is/might be a Hawkeye model.

How's that for hearsay? Big Grin

For your info - Electric City Shooter's Supply is able to get more of those Left Handed Alaskans. He wanted 875 for the rifle, and was quite pleasant to deal with. His number is 406-216-3003.

I went ahead and ordered one! Yippeee! Lions, Tigers and Bears beware, there's going to be a new predator in the world - the leftie 375 Ruger shooter!

I tried to order one and they told me since I lived in Alaska they would have to charge me $37 more!
They would not even give me a credit for what it would cost them to ship the rifle in the lower 48

After I thought about it I swallowed my pride and did the same. Cost about $671 delivered since I didnt pay "cash". Although I liked the model with iron sights I think I can have a set of quality irons installed for well under the $250 difference in the price between this rifle and the one with factory sights.

I called Ruger & ordered there rear Hawkeye Alaskan sight for around $20. They would not sell there front sight band but would sell the front sight blade. I had some question about
buying another 375, but when I thought about
how long I have waited for a LH control feed SS
375 of any kind for that kind of money I bought it. Now I need some 375 Ruger Brass & dies.

Well, I called about the LH 'Alaskanish'. The guy is trying to get more of them. Hopefully I'll have one on the way to AB come Monday. Smiler

If not, hopefully 'Buds' will still have some of the clean barreled ones.

Looks like KK Alaska and I got the last ones from Bud's Gunshop.

I too have ordered up some dies/brass and will post a range report next month. Plan to shoot it "stock" and then have it bedded/glassed. Will post on both.

Iron sights are in the mix (later). I want to go pig whacking with it first.

p.s. Their (Bud's) shipping policy to AK is just dumb...

What a great looking rifle.

Wish they made more of them or carried it as a catalog item.

Picked up mine tonight. It is a twin to KK's. At approximately $660 delivered and transfered it has to be one of the best deals on the market at the moment for any left hander.

I called Ruger & questioned them if they had any more stocks if mine broke. They had no more. Ruger told me rifle was a limited market rifle. And no plans to make more. Randy, glad to see you got the same model as mine, was very pleased to see the 20" model with great sights. What are the odds out of aprox. 25 plus rifles 2 of them ended up in Eagle River!

KK,
I guess we are old enough to see a superb left handed rifle and were quick enough to jump on the offer before they were all gone. Mine is a little rough out of the box so I will smooth out the bolt with some 800 grit polishing compound. Trigger is nice, breaks at about 4.5 pounds with just a tiny amount of creep.
One hell of a buy if you ask me for the money. I did notice it did not have much of a recoil pad on it though, ouch!

Just picked mine up as well. Same first impresson regarding the finish/bolt. Agree with the impression of the recoil pad--minimal. Good news is that I never feel the recoil when I hunt. Bad news is working it off the bench when finding a decent load--I begin to!

Overall I'm very pleased with the feel and fit. It's actually heavier than I'd expected for a carbine length barrel.

First load: Barnes TSX 235gr OAL 3.400" Reloder 15 80.5gr

Second: Same as above with 80.0gr Varget

Will be at the range Sunday if it's not raining. Report to follow.

I was scanning one of my wholesalers website and just happened to see one of these. I immediately ordered it. Now I'm really glad I did since I learned from here that no more will be made. I bought mine from Simmons in Kansas City, in case any of you FFLs have accounts with them.

Shot the Ruger today -15 F. shot it 27 times with 8 different loads. Best 3 shot group was .67" @ 100 yards 72 gr RL 15 CCI
Mag primer. 270 Horn. RN. Worst load was 3" Most loads were under 1.5". Not the best conditions for load testing. Recoil
was up there but tolerable. Like the rifle!
