The more I look at this rifle and shoot it, the better I like it. I wish I could post pictures, but can't, so you will have to bear with me.

For me, the original LOP was too long. I had it shortened to 13 1/2 inches and the guy did a good job of it. I decided to not remove the original crappy checkering, as I was afraid that the pistol grip would be too small if I did. I simply took some OO steel wool and rubbed the stock a bit to kill some of the roughness, then started putting a coat of raw linseed oil on every couple of days. Well, the stock now has a smooth, non reflective oil finish with just enough sheen to look good. The checkering doesn't look as bad as it did before I put the oil on it. I can't account for this, but for some reason it looks different, and better.

I basically like the lines of the rifle, and the metal work and bluing are quite good by any standard. I actually prefer the looks of this Zastava to a new Ruger or Remington. Bottom line is it ain't a bad looking rifle!

The best part is that it is accurate and reliable. It feeds and ejects flawlessly. At this point the rifle has 160 rounds through it without a single malfunction. Not one. And it shoots. With 270 grain TSXs, and enough H4895 for 2600 fps lit by a FED. 215, it stays around .750 inch for 5 at 100 yards. I consider it to be one of my very best rifle purchases ever.

Good to hear, I've got to get to work on my 458, I'm going to attempt some woodwork.

I'm sure that there's a gunsmith who needs to send a kid to college so the least I can do is mess it up and pay him to fix it.
