I have the itch for a new bolt gun in a 6.5. I'm leaning towards a new Montana X2 in .260, but also considering a 6.5 Creedmore.

It would be for Texas whitetails, hogs, blackbuck and coyotes.

Anyone have an opinion? I'd like the cap the expense at $1500

Well, I know you can get the Ruger American Predator in 6.5 Creedmoor in left-hand for about $400.

Mine easily shoots MOA with factory ammunition and a Burris 3x-9x.

I'm a Ruger Hawkeye fan and own 3 stainless laminates in 25-06, 270 and 300WM but I've had a hard time warming to the new Ruger American. Man, they feel ridiculously cheap. Maybe I'll look at them again.

Although I don't own a Ruger American, I've heard nothing but good things about them.

I have three different Ruger centerfire rifles and rifles chambered in 260 and a 6.5x284 so I already have my 6.5 fix and my Ruger fix handled.

Try the Ruger Hawkeye FIW Hunter in 6.5 CM. They retailed in the $1,200 range but with little net search. You can find them in the low $800.

Rather have more capacity than the Creedmoor for hunting. .260 with 120gr is a sweet spot.

I bought a LH Tikka T3 in 6.5x55 when Eurooptics had them on sale. Around $550. It is not a pretty rifle but very accurate and a great trigger right out of the box. With Federal factory 140's, it shot .75" groups. I have equaled but not beat that with my handloads, but I'm still working on them.

30+ years experience tells me that perfection hit at .264. Others are adequate but anything before or after is wishful thinking.

Get the x2 you won’t regret it. I have Rugers and the x2 is way more gun IMO. Mine has given me very impressive accuracy

I talked to MRC. Apparently they have an X3 coming out. It'll be the 2018 replacement for the X2, same spec's, but lighter, around 6.5 lbs.

I want one, but 3- 5 month wait. Anyone care to comment on the weight of a current X2 in 6.5 Creed?

3-5 month wait is not bad. I waited 3 years for the charter deal on the Montana Rifle Company left handed actions and I waited 2 years for the last run of left handed Winchester M70 Safari Express rifles to get my 375 H&H.

Ordered a MRC X2 6.5 Creed lefty off of gunbroker. Seemed like a surer bet then ordering the 2018 replacement. I handled a righty here locally and the weight felt fine to me.

Actually, couldn't find any from their dealer network that were keen about placing an order. Doesn't sound like any of them have had the greatest experience in the past.

I had pretty good luck dealing with them directly and through the distributor. It was nice being able to phone and talk to a real person

Took my new MRC 6.5 Creed to the range today. What a boner shrinker! Failed to feed and failed to extract with all three brands of ammo I tried!

I'll look at the extractor tonight and see what needs tweaked.

Edit: Looked at it tonight and I think the issue is the wrong follower and possibly wrong mag box. If I seat a round all the way back in the mag box, I have about 3/8"- 1/2" from the bullet tip to the front of the mag box with a Hornady 129gr. SST factory load. That seems awfully excessive to me. The follower also fails to lift the rear of the cartridge, so the bolt slides right over it. If I do engage the case head in the extractor and seat the round, when I extract, it will disengage from the extractor/bolt face when the bolt is pulled half way back.

Disappointing, but I'm sure MRC will make it right.

I had the same issue because I ordered the long box for my 7mm rem. I wanted to seat the bullets out. It’s an easy fix if you can live with the extended box. I pulled the action out of the stock, removed the bolt and then removed the extractor.

The extractor comes out with one roll pin. I then ground the extractor down until it was almost flush with the back of the mag box. Reassembled and it works fine. Pm me and I will email you pictures.

Double BC,
I'm not sure I have exactly the same issue as you. Part of the problem is my cartridge doesn't even rise up out of the mag well to even touch the bolt or extractor. Even if I load the cartridges to the front of the mag well, they never get pushed up to touch the bolt.

I'll mess with it more tomorrow, but it looks like a couple of things might have been missed.
