Stock for my new lefty

Richards Microfit had a stock listed in their clearance for a left action Interarms Mark X, so I just ordered it for my Zastava. The guy on the phone was sort of funny, because he put me on hold to go see if they actually had it, and when he came back on the line he said "There's a problem, this thing is a lefty!" Smiler

I know Richards gets mixed reviews at best, but they were the only place I could find a stock for my 'new Pre-64' Winchester 70 LH. It wasn't quite as much of a press fit as I might have hoped, but with a couple of hours work it was quite servicible and I will probably take it afield when deer season opens here next weekend.

The stock I ordered for my lefty Mauser is a brown laminate in a style called "modern classic." I'll be perfectly happy if it's the same quality as the one I snagged for my Model 70 LH last year. Here's the photo from their website showing the general shape of this design.

Here are a couple of pictures of the LH Model 70 stock:

I don't think it looks too bad for a stock I paid $64 (including shipping) for. It was also listed in their clearance section. It's an odd one because it has a 2.5" wide flat forearm like a benchrest gun. I may slim it down sometime in the future, but I'm starting to like the feel of it even on a hunting gun.

That's funny because I called them about that exact stock and they told me that it fit the Model 98 Mauser with the 7 3/8" action screw spacing.

My 458 Win Mag has an 7 7/8" screw spacing so I didn't order it.

So does my Zastava in 25-06. So does my mid-90's Interarms Mark X. I didn't ask about the screw spacing because I knew the Interarms guns were the same as the Charles Daly and the Zastava. It never even crossed my mind to ask, since I didn't know that a LH variant with the short action even existed. I may be in for a rude surprise...or a whole lot of woodworking!

It was waiting for me when I came home from work today. I'm happy to say the screw spacing is correct at 7 7/8" I didn't try the action in the stock because I didn't want to disturb it, since I plan on hunting with it on opening day Saturday.

It's rough, but no rougher than I was expecting. Here are some pix:

Thanks for the confirmation Elkins. I'll keep on eye on Richard's site.

I ordered a stock from Richard's Microfit for my .25-06 project. Mine was a bit off the wall because I wanted a left-hand thumbhole stock for a right hand action.

I think it turned out fairly well, it did require a bit of work with a file and Dremel tool to get the action to fit, and a LOT of work to freefloat the barrel!

But it turned out fairly decent and it shoots like a dream.

I can only hope that you like your rifle as much as I do mine!

Laminated stocks are an order of magnitude more annoying than plain wood to work on because that glue is so darned hard. You can usually do a barrel channel in plain wood with sandpaper and a dowel. For laminates I usually resort to some sort of power tool.

I had a look at the same stock good for you, snoose ya loose! I have had great luck with Richards so far but they are a little diffrerent to deal with for sure. My .270 has a nice enough piece of wood but way over size, the darn thing puts three 130 grn noslers inside a inch every time so I will likely take a file to it and bring the dimensions down to something comfortable and fur sure shorten the length of pull down from 14 1/4"
