I appologize if this has been covered before, but I would like see if it is possible to build a LH 375 H&H on a std length mag aciton. I have two potential donor actions a Remington 700 action originally chambered in 7mm remington mag and a Ruger 77 chambered in 300wim mag. I know these are std lenth actions, so I dont know if a competent gunsmith can rebarrel and make them work. I know I can get a 375ruger for about $700, but I already reload for the h&h and would like to keep it at one 375 cartridge. Let me know what you guys think.

The Remington 700 needs no additional work. The 700 7mm mag is already built on a "long" action. The Ruger needs a little metal and stock work as well as a new magazine box. Maybe KK will chime in as he did similar work on a Ruger himself. Or you could just buy a new MRC in 375 H&H for about $1,100 and call it a day and sell either one or both of your donor actions to help cover the cost. I vote for the MRC. My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost.

Rem 700 is easy new barrel with little work. Ruger 77 is harder action requires mods, the 375 Ruger a better fit for that action. Sold my 375 H&H,s and went with the Ruger 375 had several case failures in the H&H loading for 2 different rifles. If you do load for several 375 H&H keep dies & brass separate. That reason alone is why I would opt for the 375 Ruger and keep your H&H also. kk alaska

I love my Browning A-bolt LH 375 H&H ... Came stainless/composite stock and I put a mercury insert in that stock. Touching same hole at 100 yards with the Boss system. Recently found a wood stock, having the shinny finish removed, glass bedded and mercury insert. Now I have two stocks. 2.5 x 8 Leupold and it comes with good factory iron sights.

An option is a 375H&H Ackley Improved which will result in a flatter trajectory with more terminal energy. Still can shoot H&H ammo if you wish. Muzzle velocities 2950 w/ 250 Barnes TTSX and 2850 w/ 300 TSX. Mine has a Lilja barrel, McMillan stock & Jewell trigger. A real sweet shooter. Hunted SouthAfrica and Namibia this year, deadly on everything including cape buffalo (one shot), eland and on down. PM me if you desire more details.

I just saw a Montana 99 left handed magnum action on Guns International for $625. Might be an option. Mart "...I advise the gun. While this gives a moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprize, and independance to the mind. Games played with the ball and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun therefore be the constant companion of your walks." Sell both and buy the Montana, barreled action. Stock and viola...you have a 375. I would do a weatherby...then you could shoot both wby and H&H... DRSS Member
