I'll be leaving on deployment with the Navy in a few weeks and it looks as though we will spend some time in Marmaris Turkey. I've been told there is some good hunting for boar and ibex in the area. Does anyone have any first hand knowledge of such and can anyone recommend an outfit in that area to hunt with?

Thanks Mac

I don't have any first hand experience hunting in Turkey, but I was an army flight engineer in the first Gulf War. We were in Zahko, Iraq, which is just accross the border from Silopi, Turkey. When we would do night missions wearing NVGs (night vision goggles) over Iraq and Turkey, we would see a lot of huge boars. I never saw any during daylight hours.

I am in the Canoe Club as well and i used to be stationed in Incerlik Turkey. I shot wildboar and Ibex near the base with locals for about $100 a day. Incerlik is remote, you won't do this near any major city for those prices. Let's put it this way I didn't have a hunting liscence at all.

The outfitters in Turkey will charge you Euro prices to hunt near any major city. 500E a day and wildboar will be based on size. 16 CM and greater will be 1000E and 200E per CM.

PM me for more information.

These people have a good reputation. They seem rather pricey.

It sounds like a wonderful deployment. Turkey is a great placed to visit.

D99, I am surprised that you call Incirlik isolated. It is awfully close to Adana--1.4 million population.

Hi Mac,
Erdogan Avci--period. I cannot recommended him with any more enthusiasm! Great guy, great hunter and THE MAN in Turkey for wild boar and ibex. I have hunted with him several times and always satisfied. He also hunts in the old USSR republics for ibex and sheep.

Good luck,

Hunted with Diana's rep out in Turkey some years ago. Not happy. The ground was being caned - too many hunters going through - pigs knew the routines back to front.Frowner
