Goat Hunt With MMK Outfitters

MuletrainGoat Hunt With MMK Outfitters
The mid-summer itch to go shoot something was getting worse by the day. A goat hunt was the answer and MMK Outfitters had the solution. They arranged a hunt with Jeremy Williams and 5J near Kose, TX. for a day of sport and fellowship.
Jeremy was a great host. When we arrived he gave us a tour of their lodge and camp area and then took us to the range to check the rifles. Then after the safety breifing we loaded into the truck to go look for some Corsican rams.
The ranch was pretty wet due to the recent heavy rains in the area. A lot of animals were seen feeding on the meadows, senderos and roads including white tail, black buck, elk, and fallow deer.
We all got our rams and then returned to the lodge for lunch and some great hunting conversation.

MuletrainTo be honest we did not keep any of the meat. I have eaten most everything I have killed with the exception of a baboon so I was going to try the goat meat also. I took a cooler with me to carry the meat back. Before the hunt I was told that these goats are very poor table fare and that most people who took the meat home were not happy with it. So I left it there.

Ryan CampbellBesides, it was probably muletrains wife or daughter that actually did the real hunting/killing/real work anyway...
If I know him, and I do, he was probably sitting in the lodge trying to figure out how to make a 7x57 a 30-06.....
Kidding...good shooting ole' man.
The Hunt goes on forever, the season never ends.
I didn't learn this by reading about it or seeing it on TV. I learned it by doing it.

MuletrainRyan,
You are not far off on that thought. I am trying to make a 30-06 into a 7x57mm. My plans are to find a Winchester Mod. 70 Left Hand rifle in either 270. or 30-06 and re-barrel it to 7x57 Mauser. The problem is finding a LH Winchester CRF doner rifle. They are all hiding in the deep dark corners of Accurate Reloader's gun safes.
If you see one of these while prowling through gun shops let me know.
Best Regards,
Muletrain

L. David KeithActually, all exotic sheep (Corsican's are not goat's) taste very similar to lamb. An old ram can taste strong like mutton (old sheep) which I do not care for, but all of the exotics I've tried weren't too bad. Prepared by an experienced wild game cook they are good. Chops and steaks smothered in Chutney or Mint sauce ain't bad at all. BBQ is good as well. For years I was told Pronghorn Antelope wasn't fit to eat. Man were they wrong. Congrats on your hunt Muletrain. You guys did very well. Good hunting, David

Wendell ReichDavid, I forgot to ask you, how did that Mouflon taste?
Weidmannsheil Muletrain! Well done!
One question: those critters look more like sheep than goats to me?? Or am I just getting lost in the variety of Texas exotics??

L. David KeithWendell, haven't tried it yet. The Stag has been excellent. Louis tried his Stag last night and found it to be so good, he wants to hunt for a Hind when we return in the fall.
