Ever seen a blonde hog??

Hey everybody,

I thought y'all might like to see the results of my successful hunt this evening. I've been deer hunting on our little place down the road from the house and this HUGE blonde sow has been messing up my hunts for the last several weeks. She would come in EVERY evening and scare off any deer that were around and, of course, eat all the corn I had thrown out. So.....I decided that I needed to take her out so that I can hopefully get a chance at a mature buck sometime in the near future. Anyways.....here are a couple of pictures. I've never seen a wild hog that was completely blonde like this. She's not domesticated whatsoever. She is completely wild and feral.....and she is BIG. I'm almost positive she's pushing 300 lbs.....she was REALLY heavy!! I hope y'all enjoy!! Let me know what you think.

I shot her in the head (just above her right eye) with my .300 WSM using 180 gr. Winchester XP3 ammo. Range was about 50 yards. Shot her at 5:45 p.m. I gave her to a friend of mine who lives with a hispanic family and they are in the process of turnin' her into tamales as we speak!! Big Grin

I used to hunt this spot 3 years ago, when we didn't have a lease, and I used to see this same sow every night and she was the same size. So she must be fairly old. I don't think there's much chance she can be less than 6-7 years old, if she was 300 lbs. 3 years ago.

Great little story, but you should also put it into the Hogs and Boars division of AR.

Oh.....I also forgot to add that the top of her left ear is gone. It looks to have been torn off by a coyote or another hog. I didn't even think about taking extra pics of that.

Really really cool story and hog!
I have hunted hogs in Central florida for about 15 years and I have seen evry color combination but this one. I even shot a hog once that looked like it was woodland camo.

Nice Hog. Eland Slayer I hunt a couple thousand acres just south of Dayton in the Old and Lost River bottoms. At the end of deer season a friend on the lease shot a small(perfect eating size) blond sow. Then on my way down to see it,I shot it's litter mate, who happened to be jet black, As soon as I get the hang of posting pictures I'll put them up.

cool looking hog Smiler I know it may sound weird since I can hunt elk, moose, bear and deer right out the back door, but i've always wanted to shoot a hog. Are they pretty good to eat?

schmaus,

Yes.....wild hogs can be fantastic eating!! If I'm just shooting them specifically for meat, I usually try to go for ones under 100 lbs, male or female doesn't matter. However, often times the old boars will be extremely tough and smell/taste horrible. A good rule of thumb is to not even bother tring to eat a boar if you shoot him shortly after fighting with another boar, or when he's with a sow that's in heat. His testosterone levels will be through the roof and he will be nasty. Hope that helps.

You should come to Texas, I believe we've got the largest population of hogs of any state in the U.S., over 2 million!!

Not really weird at all.I get really excited when I go to mainland Europe for roe deer, boar or moose[still got to shoot a moose, saw one pedalling past me in the brush and nearly had a heart attack !They really are THAT big!
But my Scandinavian friends get really excited over a days pigeon shooting or getting out after some Sika.Far away hills are green etc etc.
Actually come to think of it, looking at my post I get excited stalking Sika also!

Thank you Eland Slayer,,
I'll transmit your congratulations to my friend GiamPiero who killed it. When I wrote "yes I did" I was answering to the question in the title of the topic. Wink
I saw it three times, running fast as a bullet with the dogs near to bite its back, the second time when it was brought out from the wood and the third time when it was ready to be slaughtered, and I did the photos.

bye
