Since you appear to be a Pennsylvania resident, that probably makes you a non-resident in NY.

As a non-resident you may NOT carry, handle or shoot a handgun, except under limited conditions, i.e., an NRA sponsored match or an IHMSA sponsored match.

This is true because NY does NOT issue CCW permits (necessary to CARRY / OWN/ SHOOT/ or TOUCH a handgun) to non-residents. Even if you are planning a move to the state, you can't bring your guns until AFTER you have become a legal resident (90 days or something, though the permit process can take a year more)

You may pass THRU... NY legally (NOT NYC) if the pistol/handgun is locked in a case and separate from the ammo and it's NOT in the passenger compartment if your destination allows you to legally own. Of course, it's a given that your starting point regards you similarly.

Still want a guide for a hanfgun bear hunt in NY ? [Wink]

I don't know squat about New York Laws but just met this guy on the net and he has a great website. Hopefully he can offer some help.

His name is Brandon Hemmerich.

Hope this helps. [Big Grin]

Sorry, you are out of luck as a nonresident looking to handgun hunt in NY. My next question would be "why would you?" Bears are not allowed to be baited or chased with dogs here. They are more of a target of opportunity while deer hunting. I would suggest you drive up to Maine where you have a much better chance of having a guide put you onto a bear and you can use your handgun.

Why leave home ? PA has a bear population ranging from 7500 to 10,000 . North central and northeast have the most.Nearby Pike Co PA has bear which will be as much as 700 lbs. It is correct that out of staters can't hunt with handgun in NY.
