I and my friend Rogers hunting trip to Czech republic.
We started the trip with car from Kramfors to Arlanda airport /Stockholm 450km. The arrival and luggage and rifle check in was easy the same for getting it in Praha airport.
Martin and Jarda were waiting for us at the airport and we headed west to Lucaz hunting area close to the city Chomutov. The landscape we drive through had nice open fields with beautiful small villages and mountains at the horizon. We bought food and beer at a small store with almost only candy and alcohol. The accommodation was a simple but nice cabin in the middle of the hunting area. The area is very nice with beech forest and small hills. It belongs to a nice castle (Cerveny Hradek) close by. We quickly went for hunting after a gulas/goulash dinner.
I was going with Lucaz for to an area with fields and a coal mine. He spotted a group of Mouflon on a ridge at an unused mine area 500m away. It was quickly getting dark so we had to fast walk and run through the valley we went up on the slope at the other side Lucas spotted them and they spotted us but we go down to try at a different location. Up on the slope again they spotted us again and Lucaz told me to shoot, I shot a female standing at broadside.
The next day we drive to an area in the mountains close to the city Plzen for a driven hunt of sika and wild boar. The hunt started with a ceremony standing in line with hats of and horn blowing. It was about 30-35 hunters with the beaters. That kind of hunt is very exiting with a lot of seeing and hearing of the game and the beaters with some dogs. A lot of shots are fired and the game comes fast. The forest was mostly of pine and spruce. The shooters stand in lines with about 100m apart so you shot in front of you. I shot two female sika deer’s the first sika i ever has seen. The organization of the hunt is very good and effective and the food was good. In Swedish standards the result of the hunt was good but for Czech hunters it was not so because of forest logging and strange warm weather. The logging machine was Swedish (Vimek). After the hunt it was a game parade with fires in the corners and a nice ceremony. After the hunt we went to the old local pub for beer and food.
Third day we stalked and waited at the food stands in the forest close to the cabin. It’s a very nice way of hunting walking through beautiful beech forest seeing and hearing a lot of animals, it were mouflon, fallow deer, red deer and wild boars. We also went to the city Chomutov for some shopping. Martin made nice food of pork and potatoes in the oven. In the evening we drive to another of Lucaz areas with high seats and food places for wild boar, Roger and Martin saw some but they got wind of them so they runned away.
Last hunting day we stalked the close area again seeing a lot of animals. Our friend Frantisek visited us in the cabin and followed on the afternoon hunt, Roger shot a doe fallow deer.
The trip home went smooth as well. We are very pleased about the trip and the planning Martin did, we look forward to meet them and hunt together again.

Thanks for the report Nordic2. I love the aspects of the traditional European hunt and can't wait to experience it for myself someday. It 's those damned cousins of those mouflon's that keep me going to other places though.

I hunted same area with his brother
Lot of mouflon in those reclaimed mine areas, pigs and roe deer as well
I grew up about 30 km SW of there in Doupov mnts, which is really good for red and sika deer

How is hunting arranged other than an outfitter in the Czech Republic?

The reason I ask is that about 9 years ago we had an exchange student from the Czech Republic and she said her uncle was a forest master/game warden for an area outside of Prague and could take me hunting for free as long as I got the proper licenses. I can't remember the exact terminology she used.

Ring any bells?

If you can use his gun and hunt with him, you don't need anything
That's what I do
But I assume he meant some kinda US license approved by Czech authorities
Check with one of these hunting agencies

Nordic2-
It sounds like you had a nice hunt in the Czech Republic. The game ceremony complete with fires and horn-blowing sounds like fun!
Thanks for sharing the story and the photo of the mouflon rams, too.

I was a great experience.

Hunting is normally arranged in revir/huntingareas for a team of local hunters. Some outfitters have their own areas as the one we were guests on. Government owns the hunting rights what are kind of auction out among interessted hunters/teams of hunters.

I will have 3 Czech guests coming to me in may for beaver hunting.
