Anyone ever hunted with or heard anything about Prophet Muskwa Outfitters in British Columbia? I have been looking at their Moose/Elk combo hunts for 2004.

I know that Jim Shockey has partnered up with this outfitter. He hunted their Yukon area for moose recently and found and video-ed a good number of decent bulls (apparently, I haven't seen the footage yet of course). I haven't heard anything negative about them. I have had no first-hand experience though.

Being a resident I don't bother with guided hunts but I did use an unguided outfitter up the Prophet. To this date I've not seen the numbers of elk and moose that I seen there. Simply incredible.

We flew in from the Alaska Hwy and the outfitter was waiting at an airstrip. We then horsed our way 3 hours up river to his base camp where we stayed for 10 days.

If I had my pictures in digital format I could post a bunch.

It was AA Packers and Outfitters. Dana Lapine.

It was a hard luck story. We got hit with a real heat wave and all the big bull elk were out of reach. We saw many through the spotting scope but getting on top of the mountains and chasing them in the timber was tough. Almost every bull we called in winded us. My ol' man missed a nice bull.

There was alot of moose. This was when you needed 3 points on the brow tine to make it legal. We saw quite a few. I seen one that may of went 65". My ol' man hit one and we spent days trying to find him. The blood trail was almost non existant. He had some tough luck as usual on that hunt. He had his horse screw off on him too. My friend missed a bull also. We went home empty handed. The eve before we left, 18" of snow fell and the plane couldnt land for a couple of days. All of a sudden the river bottom was crawling with moose and elk. We couldnt take one because our hunt was over. It was fustrating.

The group before and after us all tagged out. I've never in my life seen an area with this much game. I even seen a couple of monster mulies in there. They don't open til Oct 10. By then the stone sheep move down the valley and caribou is open too. It's a real paradise with excelent fishing for grayling and dollies.

Dana and his wife run a great camp. The food was great. Lots of elk and moose for dinner and she manages to bake some goodies too. The horses were better than we could of hoped and there is a radio phone for emergencies or just to say hi to the ol' lady.

I tried to return the following year but some misfortunes happened and I had to walk away from my deposit. I may go back again.
