From the Hunting Report http://www.huntingreport.com/ USF&W Nixes 2006/7 Kyrgyzstan Marco Polo Season On a darker note, if you have booked a Marco Polo hunt in Kyrgyzstan for this season, contact your agent or operator right away, as the US Fish & Wildlife Service (USFWS) will not be issuing import permits for Marco Polo from Kyrgyzstan for the 2006/2007 hunting season. We have that directly from Mike Carpenter, Senior Biologist at the USFWS Branch of Permits, who says Kyrgyz wildlife authorities failed to provide the necessary population surveys and other information required by the Service to issue import permits for endangered species. The deadline was May 31 and will not be extended, Carpenter told The Hunting Report. "As far as US Fish & Wildlife is concerned, the Kyrgyz season this year is over for US hunters," he said. We will have more on this in the next issue of The Hunting Report, which will be e-mailed next week. In the meantime, we are eager to hear how agents and outfitters are dealing with affected clients. Also, we would like to hear from affected clients who bought Trip Cancellation Insurance for Marco Polo hunts in Kyrgyzstan. | ||
