Looking a place to go either bowhunting maybe shotgun to take a nice whitetail 140 class and up not a zoo for the 2003 season, any references leads would be helpful, thanks fats
Here in sunny Kansas (blistering hot just now) in August, I'd recommend, if you have the time to buy an out of state license. Pick John Redmond Reservior (west of Emporia, KS), hunt the northwest part of the reservior, Council Grove Reservoir (north of Council Grove, KS) and hunt the northeast along Meunkers Creek or northwest along the water coming into the lake. Both have what you're looking for and more if you're lucky. If you have a couple of days early to scout and a climbing tree stand it would help. You really (IMHO) don't need an outfitter in Kansas to get a big buck. BUT...in hunting like fishing location and luck play a part in it. Good luck, Mike

I've hunted whiteys in Fulton County, IL several times through an outfitter called Parr's HuntNwhitetail, Don Parr. (search for his web site) Nothing fancy, you pretty much do your own hunting, he just provides lodging, meals and access to some real nice private ground. I never whacked one while hunting with him, but saw some dandy's and a couple of my partners killed good bucks. A 140 is very "doable" in Illinois, but you may have to take more than one trip. That's whitetail hunting. I'll probably go back over there again in the not too distant future.

Depends on whether you have connections in either place. If you can stay somewhere inexpensively, then you have a real shot at something like that in either state. I haven't hunted in IL but KS has some real brutes. Biggest mule deer I ever saw was in west KS.

Given the recent appearance of Chronic Waste Disease here you may want to avoid the northern part of the State if you choose Illinois. Anyone know how CWD is spread?

Have there been any confirmed cases in Illinois yet? The last I heard the closest was S wisconsin about 40 miles north of the state line. DNR has put out a law banning feeders and salt blocks to prevent the deer from congregating together, but to my knowledge there have been no cases of CWD in Illinois.

I'm afraid it's true, CWD is in the Land of Lincoln. I first heard about it Friday on the radio, and it was in yesterday's Tribune. An infected doe was killed up in Winnebago county (Rockford area) and confirmed by DNR. This sucks!
