Dear Friends,

I’m just returned from my 250 acres property in central New Brunswick. I’m very satisfied because after two years I’ve taken my first big game animal. Was an old 240 pounds bear female with almost no teeth inside the mouth but wit a very good fur despite the advanced season, taken in the afternoon of the first day of the hunt. I’m really surprised of the number of the black bears in the area. I’ve seen another bear in the same bait and another in a near. Ther’ are also moose, few deer and a lot of grouse. I was also very lucky to find Vance and Cavan, two neighbors, that are hunting guide and are helping in the property management and hunting. See few photos:

Good for you Mario, What a great place to vacation. That bear looked like it needed to die or see a dentist.

Nice bear Mario! How many kilo's does a black bear average? I heard they are more aggressive than brown bears. Is this true?

Dina,
a good black bear in eastern Canada is around 100kg. You find bigger black bears, some real monsters, in B.C. and Alaska ( coastal subspecie). I do not think they are more aggressive than Brownies. I met a couples in my area and they runanway very fast

Well done Mario! A nice bear.
Are you allowed to hunt without a guide if you have property in canada?

In New Brunswick if you are owner of a property of a value over 25000$ you can obtain the guide exemption permit. But for big game hunting I think is better to have someone who help you.

Dina, the brown bear is definitely more aggressive , more volatile, than the black bear ! Many more attacks by brown bears on people than blacks.
