Anybody interested in a really good time, great food and the desire to kill TONS of hogs, contact Ray Atkinson. I have booked 3 hog hunts with Ray so far. I have resrvations for the next 10 years at the Venado Grande Ranch in Texas, through Ray Atkinson. If you click the link below http://www.atkinsonhunting.com/texas.htm you will see the group I was with last January. Although there are 19 dead hogs in that picture there were actually more shot. Some had already been skinned and butchered before that picture was taken. BTW, I am the tall guy in the middle with the Santa beard, Don

I should add that the staff was first rate. You won't find guides that are more helpfull. You can kill as many hogs as you want for the same low price, unlike a lot of places that charge for every hog killed. Personally I saw 52 hogs last January in 2 nights. This was a 2 day hunt. Thats a LOT of bacon shot in 2 days. I will be back to the Venado Grande Ranch in Jan 2004 along with several friends. Another thing I really like is they do NOT book other hunts along with yours. When you book the ranch for your party, the ranch is all yours. The first year I went there was just 2 of us and nobody else. Last year there were 13 hunters. This coming Jan there are 6 of us. Give Ray a call for a great hog hunt. He will treat you right. Don

You shot them at night? Doesn't sound very sporting.

Hi, I believe it is common to shoot hogs at night as they are quasi-nocturnal. The same goes for bushpigs in Africa, you might luck out and catch one during the day or you can hunt him at night.

Major, If you have a problem with shooting hogs at night, its legal btw, then we will let you shoot them during the day, you'll still get hogs. [ 11-27-2003, 22:56: Message edited by: Atkinson ]

quote:It would be easier to see them and hunt them during the day but they are more active at night. We go out about 2 hours before sunset and hunt till about 2 in the morning. I shot this one at 12:30am last year. It is totally legal to hunt hogs 24 hours a day in Texas. You want a challenge, hunt them in the dark without any lights - we did. Don

Don Peter Dunn owner of Venado Grande Ranch has decided to get out of the commercial hunting business. I just returned from my 8th hunt there and was informed by the new ranch manager that the ranch will close August 31st 2004. I have since spoken with Peter and comfirmed that the ranch will indeed close 8-31-04. This is a shame, as I have had some great trips to this ranch. Have a great hunt next month, they are loaded with hogs. 3 of us shoot 17 hogs in 3 days hunting less the 2 hours a day. If you want a big boar have them put you in blind Y2, I shoot 1 boar over 250 there and passed on one close to 350#. Regards Bryan
