Hunt Area: Broken Bow, Nebraska (Loup West)
Dates: 11/11-11/12
Guide/PH : Sean a Scott - Safari Sean on AR
Rifle: Blaser R-8 success left handed 308 win, Barnes 168 grain tsx, Zeiss conquest 2-10

I saw a last minute hunt on AR and booked it.

http://forums.accuratereloadin...2100588/m/3291073632

Had to search for a rifle as I broke my 300 win mag stock and my 30/06 ruger number 1 was shooting poorly due to slipped rings (need to throw away all ruger rings).

Swapped some scopes around the blaser and took my r-8 success 308.

Drove from Florida to New Orleans (work meeting), Houston to see a friend's new house, Emporia Kansas to meet my law school buddy (his wife and he are vegetarian animal right activists) and then on to Broken Bow, Nebraska.

I had hunted this county 10 years earlier for a preserve elk - preserve belonged to my former partner and he said come shoot a elk.

Accommodation was at the excellent Arrow Hotel

Met up with Sean and scouted the day before. Saw some very nice Mule and Whitetail deer.

Day 1

Sat in a tree stand for 11.5 hrs. Saw a monster whitetail at 200 yards - did not shoot. Saw another whitetail and a mule doe. Driving back at night saw lots of deer headed to feed in the corn fields.

Another hunter 1/2 mile from me shot a nice Mule after seeing 14 Mule Deer and some nice whitetails.

Day 2

Morning saw 3 Mule Deer doe.

Sean came and said let's drive around and see if we can see any Deer. Had a coin toss with a another great guy Chris from Wisconsin and I won so I was the first shooter.

Drove around and saw some deers - nothing shootable.

Then Sean stopped the truck and said there is a buck bedded. I got out of the truck but I could not see him.

The buck was 140 yards away in the clear. The other hunter and Sean could see it but I could not. I went to Sean and he told me where it was - again I could not see it. This went on for a 2-4 minutes.

Finally I saw the deer as he was getting up. I shot and missed.

The doe and the deer took off. It ran over the hill full gallop. I cycled the blaser bolt and shot the deer in full gallop. He went down and I shot it again. Shot 2 and 3 connected and deer was down at 175 yards.

I think the other hunter exhibited great class and sportsmanship in not shooting the deer. He had it in his sights for 2-4 minutes and he did not shoot. I was pretty close to telling him to shoot it if the deer had not stood up and I was able to see it.

Recovery of the deer was difficult but Sean did some great 4 wheel driving to get close to it.

I will post some pictures this weekend. I am headed to SC to hunt with the Admiral/Subsailor74 and then off to India and Thailand to fish for giant trevally, tuna and Mekong catfish.

Blaser was excellent.

Sean has some great lease locations and provided excellent guide and hunting service.

The deer hunting in Nebraska is awesome. We went to the deer processor and there was a line of pickups around the block. Each truck was loaded with excellent Mule and whitetail bucks.

I am really getting into North American hunting and deer hunting.

Will post more pictures and fill up this report over next few weeks. Now it's time to drive to SC.

Must be hell to be a vegetarian in Emporia Kansas. Home of a fairly large feedlot industry! Smiler

Nice buck!

On the plains of hesitation lie the bleached bones of ten thousand, who on the dawn of victory lay down their weary heads resting, and there resting, died.

Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch...
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!

Nice buck. I've hunted birds and ducks in Nebraska, but never deer. I've been wanting to to that for a while.

Go Duke!!
