Recently Mr. "Cacho" Mego shot a fantastic wild boar: once extracted the tusks measured 28.4 and 28.2 centimeters. One of the best of these years and killed at Ro Negro Province, like I forecasted the big ones still are roaming there. Again, a friend of mine shot in the shoulder a smallish boar with a 180 grains Silvertip from a 30.06. The hog ran 120 meters and gave him a very bad time due to the rain and darkness. Is the 30-06 not enough gun for this kind of shooting?. I guess so. Mr. Mego used an interesting equipment: one of our 1909 Mausers converted by master gunsmith Franco Tagle to 35 Whelen and stocked Mannlicher style. Optics: 3-12x56 Zeiss with illuminated reticle. A 250 grains bullet also placed in the shoulder dropped the giant boar very quickly.
This is for making all us green with envy.
