Where were you guys hunting in PA, Juan? Unfortunately, I don't think our deer herd is doing as well as it was in '04, but there are still some running around! Good job on the deer!

You won't see as many deer in Pa today but you will find bigger bucks. There is just not a deer behind every tree these days. These are the good old days.

Yes, I do think there are some bigger bucks out there, but I feel bad for the kids starting out now. The first few years I hunted I could see 50 deer a day, now I don't think I've seen more than a handful a day hunting them for a long time (in this state, anyway). I wish it would go back to where there was a 3-day doe season, 2-week buck season, and let the kid's shoot what they want. Anyway, they still are out there, just gotta work a little harder for them, I guess.

JustinL01, yes there are less deer but again that is why it is hunting not shooting. I personally think it is better for the kids not to kill right out of the box. It helps teach them patiance and determanition. It seems we want things to be easy for youngsters. This may be part of the reason my parents generation is called the greatest generation of America, things were not easy to come by and were appreciated when obtained. Now I will get off my soap box. DOJ,

I'm not talking about them killing right out of the box, but I'd at least like them to see some deer out there to keep them interested. We have enough problems keeping young hunters in the sport, a little added success for the ones we do get out there wouldn't be bad.

JustinL01, I am not talking about killing either, as I said in my first post there is not a deer behind every tree as there were a few years ago. Maybe that is why we don't have the hunters with the determination we use to have because they have been spoiled - damn I didn't get my deer on the only day of the year I (have time to) spend in Penns woods. JMO. I would think most of the posters here are dedicated hunters but the great majority of Pa hunters are rocking chair hunters.

DOJ,

Yes, I would definately agree about most hunters in PA not being overly passionate about it. Scary some of the people I see in the woods out there. Unfortunately, a lot more people are buying WV licenses now than ever before, so it's crowding up my other favorite place to hunt! I'd just like them to go back to the old way, it'd be better for keeping kids in the sport, and hell, even I like seeing more deer when I'm on stand.
