Hi friends!
I have some photos from last year.
It was in Belarus in the april 2010.
Ther are 5 hunters from Bavaria was a one of the best hunting areas Belarus.
The capercaillie hunt, organized during the tooting period at the beginning of spring is for many hunters one of the most unforgettable experiences. There are two methods of hunting for Capercaillie: in the evening, when Capercaillie come to the tooting ground, or at dawn, when the tooting bird sings. The evening hunting takes place when Capercaillie seek a good tooting ground for the morning tooting. The morning hunting, which is in fact the most frequently used and the most effective, takes place when Capercaillie begin tooting.
Hunting ‘against singing’ consists in stalking the tooting Capercaillie in the rhythm of the song. An experienced hunter is able to recognize four phases in the song – clapping, trilling, corking and grinding. Each phase lasts from 1.5 to 2 seconds. During the grinding phase the cock cannot see or hear anything and this is a good time for the hunter to approach it by 2-3 steps. An intensively tooting cock can give as many as 200 songs one morning. After reaching the distance of the effective gunshot you have to wait till dawn.

Fantastic! Can I ask if hunting in Belarus is for the wealthy only? That cabin and it's surrounding grounds are very well kept and hint at royalty, almost. I'm referring to residents only(not wealthy foreigners).

I ask because a friend has a Hungarian wife and he was shocked to find that it was near impossible to hunt there......despite there being vast hunting grounds. Seems everyone belongs to a hunting club for anywhere between $5-40k per year......and if you don't belong you can't hunt.

.

The locals hunters can go hunting in Belarus for a better price than the foreign hunters. The local hunter must pay ,for example, for a trophy elk 200EURO and thet han for foreign hunter must pay 800EURO.
There are in Belarus barely hunting districts which are in private hand. Only 1% all hunting areas of Belarus are in the privite hand.

The hunting areas in Belarus there are in:
1.National parks
2.Forest Ministry
3.The society hunting areas
4.Privit

In the National Paks is a hunting very expensive!
Most expensive jagd is in the Nation parks.
The most favorable - in social hunting districts.
The belorus hunters can hunt in this hunting areas.
The hunting area at the photo - is privit.
One of the best in Belarus!

That looks like a great experience. What are the smaller blackish birds hanging on the trophy pole? Black grouse?

I love that short-barreled O/U.

Yes, you are right

But i know the hunter from canada he has hanted in belarus 5 yeas ago.

And in hunting report was information about this land:

FROM HUNTING REPORT:

Hunting European Moose In Belarus North American Style

Published: November - 2008

If you're interested in hunting European moose but don't care for the traditional driven hunts used in that part of the world, then this hunt in Belarus may be for you.

Belarus is slightly smaller than the State of Kansas and is sandwiched between Russia and Poland. It attained its independence from the USSR in 1991 but has closer political and economic ties to Russia than any of the other former Soviet republics. The country is relatively flat, with vast forests of hardwoods and evergreens broken up by a web of rivers, lakes and great bogs. Much of the northeastern end of the country is semi-wilderness. As hunting destinations go, it is largely overlooked by international hunters, yet it offers one of the largest herds of European bison in Europe, as well as red stag, wild boar, wolf and European moose.

Honor Roll subscriber J.Y. Jones recently returned from Belarus, where he killed a trophy-sized European moose that is bigger than both the Shiras and Eastern Canadian moose he took in North America. What's more, he says he shot this moose on a hunt conducted much like a moose hunt back home. It measures 42¼ inches wide in spread, has big palms and 13 points. (See photo in the Trophy Gallery section of our web site.) Jones expects it to rank high in the SCI Record Book once it dries and is formally scored.

Jones traveled to Belarus as part of a quest to collect all 52 Eurasian species from 22 countries in Europe with his Remington 700 in 7mm Ultra Mag. When looking for a place to hunt moose, he had considered Finland. The traditional method of moose hunting there and other places in Scandinavia involves driving the moose toward stationed hunters. A second method often employed in neighbor.
