Folks,

As you might have read in my hunt report http://forums.accuratereloadin...8321043/m/4861095632 I took a group to Newfoundland for moose this last Sept. Even though the rut was not yet kicking in everyone tagged out by the morning of day 3. I also had a successful hunter take a nice bull Woodland Caribou in Oct.

There are loads of moose in the area I hunted and a hunter should have multiple opportunities. You will not shoot a giant AK/Yukon type bull here but if you shoot well you'll get your bull and perhaps a very nice one. Everybody in my group saw bulls each time they were in the field.

The outfitter Norman Pilgrim/Bough Wiffen Outfitters has multiple camps in two different guide areas allowing him to offer lodge type accommodations or remote cabins on small lakes depending on the hunters preference. Most opt for the lodge but the chances are much better for a big bull in the remote camps.

Prime rut dates are open in late Sept/early Oct.

If you are looking for a moose hunting experience and just can't afford $20,000 in AK this might be just what you're looking for.

A bear can be added to either the moose or caribou hunt.

The black bear hunts are conducted a little differently than other baited hunts I know about. Norman hunts you 2x1 for one thing, only hunts the prime rut period of late June/early July and has a max of 6 hunters in camp at any one time. When compared to hunts having 6 or more hunters to one guide and 50+ hunters in a season there is no comparison. The guide will actually be able to sit with you if you're not so sure about what to shoot and if not he'll be close by to retrieve your bear if your successful. There will be no long waits in the dark for the guide to pick you up.

Accommodations will be once again in a lodge setting with great meals.

Pricing:

1x1 6 day moose NOW $5,250 was $7,000 fly in camp (float plane)
1x1 6 day moose drive-in camp (sold out)
A black bear can be added to any moose hunt for $750
1x1 6 day spring black bear $3,750 allows 2 bears. Drive in camp.

Price includes flights to and from camp, Lic/tag, all food/lodging, full guiding, transport of meat and trophy to a butcher for processing plus shipping. If you drive in you can easily take the meat home with you and if not the meat can be shipped to you processed at a rate that makes it worth doing. I can walk you through the shipping as I did it myself and it was quite simple.

Call me any time on this adventure.

Mark

Tim,

Because the outfitter has multiple camps they can take you most anytime throughout the season but ideally you'd want to be there the weeks of Sept 24-29 or Oct 1-6 as this is the prime rut period.

Perhaps, I missed it but would you provide some info about travel requirements. I live in Georgia & would like to know my initial & subsequent Canadian locations that would be reached via commercial air & finally, transportation from the last airport to camp.

Many thanks.

Roger,

You didn't miss anything. I sent you a PM addressing travel. Essentially you clear Canadian Customs in Toronto and connect onto your flight to Deer Lake, NL. An overnight in Deer Lake will be necessary. From there you'll go onto the float plane base via cab and finally float plane to camp.
