I've been hunting a specific property inside the Thukela Biosphere in KZN for the last 15 years and the several clients I've guided there have collected some exceptional trophies of various species (notably Nyala but also Blue Wildebeest, Zebra and some others...) The last Nyala we harvested on this particular property measured 29.5" - this was last year. I therefore had no qualms in booking the same property for a Nyala hunt that was due to commence end of last month and finish a few days ago... Great was my surprise when I phoned the property manager 2 weeks before the hunt to sort out odds and ends and then hear that the property was in the process of being sold and no further hunting is to be conducted there... Initially I thought I was in a jam... "How does one arrange a hunting safari in a new area/camp with two weeks notice?!!!" Well, fortunately I had a few strings to pull and as it turned out it worked out far better than expected... One of the "strings" I pulled was a 10,000 acre game ranch on the outskirts of a town named Weenen - about 4 hour's drive from Johannesburg. The current owners bought this prized property last year... It's been the dream of many trophy hunters and Hunting Outfitters alike for many years before this... Not much hunting has been going on over here during the last 12 months and even then the focus has been on "meat / biltong" hunting as opposed to trophy hunting. The result? Many, many, Nyala waiting to be harvested by connoisseur hunters! And not only Nyala... Red Hartebeest, Blue Wildebeest, Kudu and several other plains game species occur in abundance! Was hunting easy during my last visit? "No", even though hunting pressure had been low, the district hadn't had any frost or real cold weather when we were there so it was still very thick and spotting Nyala in the thicket was extremely difficult. BUT... We did stake out a waterhole one day and had 9 Nyala bulls coming in to drink between 11am and 3pm! Please bear in mind that this is not a Nyala hunt where the Nyala are fed Alfalfa and shot next to the homestead... This is a real Nyala hunt in every aspect of the word where they range freely and live in their natural habitat...the thickets & mountains of Kwa Zulu Natal. The camp overlooks a waterhole, is rustic and comprise of 4 en-suite thatched rooms, a fire pit and kitchen. Electricity is supplied by solar power/batteries and a generator and hot water is provided by a wood burning "donkey". All bathrooms have flush toilets and hot/cold water 24/7. It is not at all "luxurious" but it is comfortable and clean. We hunt directly from camp on the 10,000 acre property so this is no "tarmac safari". What I'm looking for is minimum 2 / max 8 hunters who would like to share this adventure with me and prove to the owners that I can bring them more business than what they're getting from their meat hunters... The deal is this: I'm not going to offer any special/reduced pricing on this hunt. My 1X1 Daily Rates are $450pd and my 2X1 Rates are $350pd. I charge $150p/p for arrival days and my Trophy fee for a Nyala bull in Natal is $2,500. I will require a $1,000 deposit per person to secure dates for this 10 day hunt in 2015... However; I am so convinced that there are real trophy Nyala on this property that I'm willing to offer a "money-back" guarantee on this hunt... This is my deal to you: IF, I cannot guide you to a min 27" Nyala during this 10 day hunt your hunt will be free and I will pay your $1,000 deposit back to you. If however I do manage to find you a 27" Nyala (or bigger) and give you a shooting opportunity at it - you will pay me the full cost of the hunt - irrespective of whether that happens on day 1 day or 10... Sounds fair? Email me to secure your booking or pm me your tel # and I will call you.
