Pix are of a safari last season with two of my past clients.

I'm working with Vina27 in Cameroon that operates on 325,000 acres along the Vina river in East central Cameroon. Camp is a 3 hour drive from Ngaoundere.

My guys reported plenty of game and all the mayor Cameroonian savannah species present. They both had hunted the savannah before so they were selective on what they shot. Their bag could have been much larger.

You can walk as much as you want but often game can be spotted right from the safari vehicle. Here I should say if you have not been to the Cameroon savannah be aware that the ground often times is covered in worm mounds that will turn your ankle in a second. I would wear heavier than normal safari footwear.
I have a brochure that I can share with anyone interested.

Camp has comfortable private chalets with ensuite bath and AC.

So the LDE costs 9000 euros upon success? I thought that’s what a trophy fee was….Never heard of a success fee and a trophy fee……Bizarre. Confused

Or….the Outfitter is putting more risk on themselves making it a more fair deal for the consumer potentially…
To me it’s purely relative to how fair/competitive the base price is.
Is the base price a good deal and the only way you pay perhaps a normal market price is when you are successful?

No, the outfitter is NOT putting more risk on himself. If you are successful you get dinged twice instead of once. A trophy fee is only paid on success but now you get to pay twice as much if successful…… thumbdown

The odd thing to me is the highlighted 2500E discount then when you kill one it's 2000E more than the original 30kE price before discount.

That's magician pricing.

Guys,

Before you all get bent out of shape. First off it's only an ad and you can take it or leave it. 2nd your basically paying a 9000 Euro trophy fee. So what? Somehow this is "unscrupulous"? All the costs are right there. Nobody is trying to deceive anybody.

I agree the way this is worded is not the norm but I don't see there is anything to get upset about.

These folks just think the success fee makes their offer more attractive. To some it will be.

Happy New Year!

Mark

People have started getting very odd in what to complain about…
Base price is either good…or not
Like you said…you kill your LDE and you pay the $9k
The total cost is either deemed good..or not
It does put some onus on the operator to deliver
Is it slightly unusual to list/phrase it this way? Sure… but it’s clear and transparent
God forbid they commit the fatal and mortal sin of say asking $3k to reserve very limited quota to late season….for that sin one should be drawn and quartered and forever deemed a crook

Point is the wording is extremely stupid.

I know, ultimately it is what you finally pay in total.

I have no idea what a normal LDE hunt costs.

Never interested me, and never will.

But seeing what is on offer, it says avoid at any cost.

Seems to me a trophy fee is a success fee. You don’t pay a trophy fee if youre not successful. They just doubled the trophy fee over the usual amount. Transparent yes, but a weird way to double the trophy fee. No wonder the outfitter is willing to eat the government increase in trophy fees.

As a measure of comparison, I just got Mayo Oldiri’s letter about this last week for my upcoming hunt with Alan Vincent on their Mayo Nduel concession. They’re now charging $7,000 for LDE and $4,000 for Roan. But they also now charge $44,000 for a 12-day hunt on Vaimba, Oldiri & Nduel areas, $52,000 for Djibao. I’m glad I booked and locked in my price 2 years ago!

When you consider total costs, Mark’s deal is pretty damn good, despite the annoying ‘success’ fee.

Regardless of who you hunt with or where, if you want a Lord Derby Eland, you should get something booked. Cameroon is the only viable option right now and nobody knows how long we’ll be able to hunt there. The President is 92 and once he’s no longer in power who knows what will happen? Lots of problems in the surrounding countries.

It's costly and not an easy hunt to do. So different from hunts in the Southern Africa countries. Anybody who lives for hunting would never regret going for LDE.
I want to go again. Sadly, the only thing stopping me is inability to make the money fast enough. But, I live in hope.

I’d prefer not to pay it at all. That’s what a trophy fee is for. No trophy, no fee. Seems to work everywhere else.

I would prefer to pay the trophy fee if successful.

This is just a thinly veiled way of doubling a trophy fee.

What’s next? If you hop off the Land Cruiser to pee will you someday pay a “Urination Fee”???

It's a price hike in disguise. Makes the base price 32000Euro after the "DISCOUNT" of 2500Euro then adding back 4500Euro

The Euro is $1.10 with fees about $1.13
Hunts offered in the USA should be in Greenbacks not Euro!

Why not just tell what the hunt cost is all in instead of making guys get out a calculator to get to the bottom line.

Hi All,

I appreciate everyone has their opinion, and whilst the advert does come across a little funny. I have seen several hunts globally with extra fee's upon success in addition to the trophy fee. "Conservation Fee's" "License Fee's Etc"

Anyway thats just opinion and everyone is welcome to one.

What I will say is I did this hunt and two of us had an amazing 10 days and shot two fantastic old eland bulls and buffalo bulls. Its a good hunt and at a very reasonable price which for people who have to look at the cost but want to experience LDE hunting is maybe a good option.

Just my thoughts

Alex

Extra fees if you are successful?

Isn't that what a trophy fee supposed to be?

Anytime I see something as stupid as this, it means avoid at any cost!

Guys,

I changed the LDE trophy fee to 9,000 as it is what you'll pay if you shoot your LDE.

BTW the Vina27 folks are 100% on LDE over the last 6 seasons they've had the concession.

Put a pencil on these numbers compared to some other Cameroonian operators and see what you find out. What matters is the total price all in. I've heard many times on AR that folks would like to see more offers with higher trophy fees and less daily costs.

I have no skin in this game but I'll echo the points made my Mark and DLS. This is an excellent price for LDE in today's market. Many of the highly regarded areas and outfitters in Cameroon charge significantly more for the base LDE hunt. At the end of the day, if you get your eland and it cost you 60K does the itemized price breakdown/pricing structure matter?

I may get stoned for this but I am personally booked for LDE in 2025 with the lower base cost/higher trophy/success fee model. I don't want to highjack Mark's thread with the details but I personally liked this type of pricing structure so long as everything is transparent (as Mark's offer most certainly is for this hunt).

If I wasn't booked, I would have already called about this hunt...
