With all the controversy about unlicensed PHs and Outfitters that we see posted, would it be a good idea to have anyone who offers a hunt on this forum to have to list their PH and/or Outfitter license number in the offering post? Some of the PHs/Outfitters are already doing so and it seems to give a sense of legitimacy to their posts and cuts out a lot of questions. I like and appreciate the way Saeed and his men has maintained a very high degree of freedom on this site, sure at times the language get a bit rough, but so be it. Introducing more rules is a slow creep down a road leading to bureaucracy - not my cup of tea. I do think we are doing good ourselves policing the site - if we are suspicious then go for it and challenge the owner of the post - flush him out if a sleazy one.

Lots of states don't offer or require outfitter registration.

That's very good idea, to protect client's right is always good, should follow voluntarily by all outfitters.

IH: With that kind of reasoning it should also be fair for the other side to demand the same of a client's integrity as well. Given the disparity in proportions, there has to to be more rotten clients than there are outfitters and PHs wouldn't you say?

Probably true, because there are a lot more clients than there are PHs. But, clients pay for their safari way ahead of time, and those who do turn out to be bad apples, as a percentage, I suspect would be less than the bad apples in the business. PH tend to keep quiet when the get a bad client, except in very rare occasions.

If for Africa, maybe, but otherwise.....what Jeremy said. For example, I have hunted with Crazhhorseconsulting and have no idea if Randall has a "license" or not. Don't care. I'm sure there are others in the same situation. Larry "Peace is that brief glorious moment in history, when everybody stands around reloading" -- Thomas Jefferson

The more information an Operator and PH can provide the better.Saves emails, phone calls etc. Thanx for some sound advise.

In Africa especially where most countries require hunting tourists to use Outfitters registered with the game departments. The number should not be a secret, its your licence to operate. Ive just put mine in my signature line, easiest for me. It's easier in thought than deed. Firstly, some countries don't have a registration process for some/all classifications of operator (agent/outfitter/guide/PH etc) and therefore said numbers don't exist and secondly, the more info you put on a public forum, the more chance that info can be hijacked for nefarious purposes. Better (IMO) for the buyer to ask for such info privately and check it out thoroughly.

As a businessman a client's integrity is measured by how fast he pays. considering that all hunts are prepaid I'd say 100% of clients have very high integrity. Now, some might be more difficult than others to work with, but that is the biz.

I think the whole 'non-refundable deposit' covers the clients' integrity to a great degree not to mention daily rates paid in full 60-90 days before the hunt starts. In light of that, a license number seems a small request, don't you agree? Hunting: Exercising dominion over creation at 2800 fps.

I just reread "short happy life of Francis Maconber" again to check out the .505 Gibbs reference and remember this line, after Mrs. Macomber sneeks off to Bwana PH's tent at night.....
