Well, Profy, I don't think you can be accused of supplying insufficient information Wink. Good effort!

Any red deer in this area??

I hunted tur and red deer from an area near Vladikavkaz some years back. I particularly enjoyed the deer hunting in the rut.

What an interesting hunt. The price seems very reasonable also.

I had to look up pictures of the the Tur and they are fascinating. If I had the knees for that kind of hunt I would love to do it.

It does look like a lot of fun. The house looks more like a 5 star hotel.
Still waiting on the Kyrgistan marco polo info though.

Thanks for posting! I've been wanting to hunt tur for some time.

Can you tell me about normal weather conditions? I've been told fog can be a real problem when hunting for tur in a big part of the range. How many days of the 6 hunting days will normally allow for good visibility?

Can you also tell me a little bit about the chamois population in this area? What's the success rate for a chamois as an add on?

Thanks again!

Anders

@mho
Certainly, you can hunt there a red deer( 20TH August-15th January) , a caucasian bear( 01th Oktouber-31th Dethember) and a caucasian wild boar (01th Oktouber-15TH January)
In Karatchaevo-Tscherkessien on the river Kuban you can hunt other animals: Kuban or West-caucasien Tur.. But for the kuban tur there are not enough licences. Too many hunters would be hunting kuban tur. If I could to be offered hunting with discounts price, I will place the announcement at this forum.

@Frank
Thank you very much

@bluefin
Marco Polo in Kirgyzstan its not so difficult hunt as caucasien tur and we have more licences for Marco Polo as hunting licences for kuban tur.

@Anders
You are right.Fogs there frequent enough phenomenon. Sometimes, at different height.
But it is a problem for all high-mountainous hunting.
We will tell, in May there is no so much fog, as at autumn. Precisely to tell, how much days of good visibility, and how much bad weather - it is impossible.
You will sometimes have a fog in the morning, and later you will have good weather.

For the caucasian chamois in this hunting area, you must to plan 1-2 hunting days and for tur 2-3 days in 2500-3500m above sea level.
In other regions the chance to hunt the chamois is not so good, as in this hunting area.

Best Regards!!!
Thanks for questions.

Profyhunter,
A couple of questions, Is there an international airport in Vladikavkaz? If not, how do you connect from the U.S. to that point? How far is it from Vladikavkaz to the hunting area? Mineralnie Wodi? What is the altitude you will stay at? What is the altitude you hunt at? What physical condition is required? What size tur could be reasonably expected to have an opportunity at?
Thanks

505, I'm sure "Profy" will provide you with full answers, but until he does...

When I flew to Wladikavkas, I had to connect through Moscow.

In September, the tur hunting took place at pretty darn high altitude. At times over 4000m - about 12.000 ft. The air gets pretty rarefied at those altitudes (unless you live at high altitude or have explicity undertaken altitude acclimatization in advance), and symptoms of altitude sickness can not be excluded. At this altitude, though, it will probably be a fairly mild form, e.g. a splitting headache.

Our base camp was in an old sanatorium, I'm not sure what the altitude of that was - maybe 3000 ft?? When trying for tur, at times we had to spend the night rather "adventurously" under rock overhangs etc in the mountains. Altitudes of 9000 ft were not out of question for spike camps. Actually, I never measured spike camp altitude, so I'm guesstimating here, but we had to spend the night close to where we expected to gain access to the tur when they moved from their nightly feeding grounds to their safe places in inaccessible (high altitude) locations.

In general, Caucasus was one of the tougher mountain hunts I have had the pleasure of experiencing. The terrain was steep as anything, altitude high, and when I hunted horses were practically not used. That meant you had to drag not only your own sorry posterior to high altitude, but also hump gear for spike camp. Bring a good sleeping bag!

Thanks for questions.

Unfortunately, now there are no direct flights from Europe to Сaucasus. There was a flight Munich-Mineralnie Wodi earlier.
You should fly through Moscow.
From the Airport Vladikavkaz to the hunting area 60км., but you stop in the first night at 1900м.
From Vladikavkaz to Mineral Waters 200км or three haures by car.

The physical condition should be very good. You should pass in day to 10км. You can hope for middle trophy size with 80см. Its really trophy size.

Mike!
Thanks, you have full informaton.
I dont know what to add. just for fun.
